Can’t Win Me Back by Ginger Sue

Chapter 154

Even Jasper was surprised by his own baseless accusation. He had formed a negative preconception against her even when he lacked evidence.

Somehow, he hoped that Alice had deliberately played a role in the incident because that would prove his importance to her.

"Jasper, you think too highly of yourself." Her heart ached as she forced a smile. "To be honest, I have never considered taking revenge against you.

"I don't care if you marry Liana. I won't even bat an eye if you marry four wives like Winston Taylor of Belbanks. Spiting you is not worth it at all."

Pain shot through his heart. He felt as though something had hit him hard. "Alice, you ..."

"Rose has a waitlist until the end of next year. She is a

principled woman. Even the first lady would have to join the line if she wanted Rose's service."

"Rose might have wanted to spite Lia for my sake, but I am not that petty to use a friend to get back at Lia. If I wanted to spite Lia, I would have slapped her right away instead of taking the roundabout way. You don't understand me at all," she mocked him with a faint smile on her lips.

He found nothing in her eyes, not even a hint of excitement. That was like a stab to his heart.

"Alice!"

A familiar voice interrupted their confrontation. Jonah had shown up.

Alyssa took the chance to free herself from Jasper and jogged toward Jonah. Jonah hugged his sister. "Sorry, I'm late. I was held back by work."

"It's fine." She sniffled with tears in her eyes.

"He didn't give you trouble, did he?" Jonah looked worried as he cast a glance at Jasper, who was frozen on the spot.

She shook her head. "Let's go home."

Jasper stood there for a while before suddenly running after them. Sean was waiting for Jonah and Alyssa by the Rolls-Royce at the entrance.

"My feet hurt in the heels. Sneakers are the best." Alyssa pouted at Jonah.

"Sean, get me the sneakers I brought for her."

Sean quickly took a pair of sneakers from the trunk and placed them by Alyssa's feet.

Jasper finally ran to the entrance. He watched as Jonah kneeled and took off Alice's heels. Jonah proceeded to hold her ankles and put on the sneakers for her. He even tied the shoelaces nicely with a level of attentiveness that rivaled a father taking care of his daughter.

She slid her hand into Jonah's pocket and found a piece of chocolate. She took a bite of the chocolate and smiled sweetly.

"Let's go home." Jonah led her into the car. They left in no time.

Jasper felt as though his heart had been taken from him. His chest was filled with disappointment and a feeling of emptiness. His ex-wife, who had once lived her lonely days in his absence, was now treated like a princess by Jonah Taylor.

A dignified man, Jonah was willing to do anything for the woman he loved with eyes full of affection. He loved Alice so much that he wanted to help her to put on her shoes.

Jasper felt oddly upset at the sight of Alice being doted on.

In the evening, Liana followed Jasper to the Seaview Manor with the excuse of visiting her uncle and aunt.

"Jasper, why did you disappear from the cocktail party that night? I was scared when you left me alone." Seated in the back of the car, she hugged him and rested her head on his shoulder.

"Lia." He slowly removed his arm from her grip. Sounding icy, he demanded, "I hope you stop giving Alice trouble if you run into her, especially when she's not hostile to you. Can you do that?"

"Jasper, d-did you think I was bullying her?" She questioned with a teary voice. Her eyes became misty.

"Weren't you?"
