Can’t Win Me Back by Ginger Sue

Chapter 240
Tatiana was always considerate and grateful, so Alyssa never really knew how to pamper her.
“Taty! Are you back in the city?” Alyssa asked happily over the phone.
“Yep, I’m at the school,” Tatiana replied. She sheepishly asked, “Um... Are you doing anything
tonight?”
“You wanna hang out?” Alyssa immediately knew what Tatiana was up to.
“Mhm!” Tatiana eagerly answered. “We haven’t had a chance to properly spend time together
since you came home. Why don’t we have dinner tonight? My treat!”
“Just dinner? No drinks after?” Alyssa teased.
Tatiana’s tone took on a mischievous edge. “Drinks afterward, then! We’ll go for some karaoke too.
We haven’t had that much fun in ages. I’ll definitely sing better than you.”
“Hahaha! You’re on!” Alyssa laughed. “We’ll see who’s the final victor tonight!”
During the board meeting at the Beckett Group, Javier emphasized three critical directives. The
first was to eliminate any negative consequences resulting from the actions of Sophia and Henry,
with the aim of halting the company’s tarnished reputation and preventing a decline in its stock
value in the market.
Secondly, Javier called for the removal of all of Henry’s authority and his official title. He also
urged for immediate investigations into the projects that Henry had overseen, along with interrogations of all relevant personnel
involved. 1
Finally, to strip away Sophia’s authority and title on the board. He emphasized that any additional

changes would be contingent upon the completion of the ongoing investigations.
Everyone left the conference room feeling like they had just participated in a war, feeling
thoroughly exhausted and stressed.
“Stay back, Jasper. I want to have a word with you,” Javier said to his son before the latter could
leave.
Jasper turned around silently and went to sit back in his seat.

The atmosphere grew heavy and tense, even though it was just the two of them.
Javier cleared his throat and asked sternly, “How would you handle this issue as CEO?”
“In accordance with standard procedure, without any bias or personal feelings involved.” Jasper’s
tone was calm and flat.
He continued, “All Sophia can do now is to cooperate with the Investigative Bureau and tell them
all she knows about this. There’s no other way to recover her for the time being.”
“I will find a way to get her out of there!” Javier swore vehemently.
“Do you really think you can?” Jasper asked. “I heard that the investigating officer handling
Henry’s case is Silas Taylor.”
“Silas Taylor?”
“Winston Taylor’s second eldest son and Alyssa’s second elder brother.”
Javier’s breathing caught nervously, and he leaned back into his chair as if he’d just seen a ghost.
“Alyssa has had a knife against our throats from the start. Of course, it’s without a doubt that

Sophia and Henry are to blame for getting themselves into this mess too.
“As President of the company, you need to start thinking for the good of the big picture. For example, making contingency plans
for our stocks crashing on the market.” Jasper clasped his hands together, ready to rise from his seat. He no longer wished to
discuss this.
“Wait!” Javier cried. “You know Dr. Frederick Gunn from Yoarkley, don’t you? If we can get him to become our biomedical
department’s specialist cum consultant, our reputation will surely
recover! Contact him right away and persuade him to come on board!”
Jasper narrowed his eyes just the slightest. “Alright.”
Javier’s shoulders finally relaxed. But just when he thought things had calmed down, Jasper
suddenly said, “On one condition.”
“Yes?”
“You make me Vice President of the company board.”
