Can’t Win Me Back by Ginger Sue

Chapter 486
Anyone could tell that Newton was being sarcastic. He was doubting Simon’s integrity.
Jasper couldn’t hold back a grin while Javier and Sophia put on sour faces.
“Sir!” Ben hurried over and announced courteously, “Ms. Alyssa is here!”
Jasper’s heart sank, and his eyes faltered. Everyone shot complicated glances at the door.
Alyssa’s high heels clicked sharply, echoing in Jasper’s heart. She walked alone into the compound, her
confident and regal air making it seem like her first visit despite her three years of living there.
Jasper fell into a daze, feeling as though they were still married.
“Grandpa, I’m here!” Beaming, she approached Newton with bright eyes. She did not pause for a second
as she brushed past Jasper, treating him like a stranger.
He felt suffocated as his fingers curled into a fist. His heart skipped a beat and sank. After the divorce,
every time he crossed paths with her was like torture.
“Alyssa ...” Betty glowered at Alyssa, ready to lash out, only to be reined in by Sophia.
“Oh, isn’t this Simon? What a small world!” Alyssa paused when she passed Simon and grinned at him.
Simon looked startled, just like the others. Everyone wondered about the nature of their relationship,
seeing how they were on a first-name basis.
“Ms. Alyssa. It’s been a while,” replied Simon with a forced smile as he addressed her politely.
“Right? You haven’t visited Dad for five years or so. He thought about you recently,” she remarked, “We’re old family friends.
Uncle Spencer always brought you and Sean to visit us when I was a kid. But we grew distant over the years.”
Then, she turned her gaze onto Javier’s shocked face and stated, “Mr. Beckett, you probably had no idea about this, but Uncle
Spencer and his three sons have always been very welcome at our home.

“After Uncle Spencer retired, he briefly served as the Director of Legal Affairs of KS Group, although not many people knew
because he kept a low profile.”
Simon struggled to maintain his composure. His cheeks burned in shame. Alyssa sounded unbothered, but every single one of
her remarks was aimed at him.
He was reluctant to reveal that his family was indebted to the Taylors. Deep down, he acknowledged that he owed much of his
current success to their financial support.
He had to break free from the Taylors’ influence to build a name for himself and grow his career.
“I never knew that Mr. Lynch had a close connection to the Taylor Family,” mused Newton.
“Yes, my dad served as the legal counsel of KS Group for a few years, but it was all in the past. I have not
been in touch with the Taylors for a long time,” Simon quickly added, anxious to distance himself from
the Taylor family.
“Simon-My bad, Mr. Lynch.” Alyssa squinted, her smile fading. “I’m sure you haven’t forgotten the
unfortunate incident that occurred when Uncle Spencer retired. Without my dad’s help, your family might not have survived that
challenge.
“My dad was indebted to yours, and your family received help from ours as well. We never wanted you to repay us, but at the
very least, you shouldn’t join forces with outsiders to give me trouble.”
She put on a cool, mocking grin. “Is burning bridges one of the principles an attorney swears by?”
