Chapter 66
Jasper scowled, and he pursed his lips.
Since Alice could afford nine million, raising ten million wasn't a big deal. She stopped not because she couldn't afford it but because she gave up.
It was obvious that she did it on purpose. But he couldn't say anything. After all, no one forced Liana to spend a fortune on the painting. It was all on her.
Several more items were auctioned, and Alyssa remained composed. She didn't make any moves at the moment.
Jasper's sole focus was getting the Antique Rosewood Chair, so he remained still.
Next up was a pair of Antique Emerald Ornaments donated by Madam Sophia on behalf of the Beckett Group. The starting price was two million.
Alyssa sneered and shook her head disdainfully. She would rather bid on the first painting replica than spend a large sum on those two useless stones. Anyone who would buy them was a fool.
As expected, there were only a few bidders. The auctioneer tried hard to promote the items. But in the end, they were sold for 2.6 million.
Sophia's smile gradually faded. At least it was more than 2.5 million.
Jasper, on the other hand, remained indifferent. Whatever Sophia did, it would only damage Javier's reputation. Jasper would remain unaffected in any situation, but Sophia and Javier were one as husband and wife.
"The KS Group donated a pair of Georgian Sky-Blue Porcelain Chalices, courtesy of Ms.Mandy!"
The excitement of all the collectors in the audience was instantly aroused! Alyssa was also shocked and turned around to look frantically at the back. Finally, she spotted Mandy's elegant figure.
She quickly sent a nervous text to Sean. "Why is Aunt Mandy here? Why didn't you tell me?"
Sean replied, "I just found out too, Ms. Alyssa. Maybe it was a last-minute decision by Mr. Taylor."
"Damn it! That unpredictable old man!" Alyssa silently cursed.
She felt slightly anxious. Almost every one of the Beckett family was here today. She was worried that her identity as the daughter of Winston Taylor might be exposed.
At this moment, she noticed Mandy secretly gesturing an "OK" sign to her. There was a hint of amusement in her eyes.
Alyssa realized that she was aware of the situation. She was touched by how understanding she was. Mandy was so sharp; her reputation preceded her.
The crowd was eager to bid. They couldn't wait to get their hands on the items donated by the KS Group.
"The Georgian Sky-Blue Porcelain Chalices are indeed a rare find, and Miss Mandy donated not only one but two! The Taylor family's generosity is truly commendable. They indeed have a heart of gold."
"A huge difference compared to the Beckett Group. Those two items from earlier were nothing. I bet they couldn't even match the value of the two sculptures in front of my house."
"Mr. Javier's wife seems to have questionable taste."
Sophia's face turned red with embarrassment and discomfort. The contrast between her and Mandy's collection was like heaven and earth. It made her look disgraceful.
Jasper's dark eyes finally showed a hint of interest as the auction progressed. He fiddled with the bidding paddle in his hands.
"The porcelain is flawless and translucent. It is indeed of good quality. Behind every cloud is a silver lining. The sky-blue color represents a promising future after dark times."
Jasper couldn't help but glance at Alyssa with surprise when he heard her recite the phrase.
Alyssa was immersed in the charm of the antiques. Her skin was fair and delicate, and the light enhanced her elegant and graceful features. It made her look incredibly beautiful, enough to take anyone's breath away.
She was stunning, but he never once noticed her beauty.
