Chapter 247
At 11.00PM, Emmanuel finally heard someone knocking at the door. He quickly
rushed to open it and accidentally bumped into the corner of the table,
which made him grit his teeth in pain.
The moment he opened the door, he saw Lexi supporting Mackenzie, and he
couldn’t help but feel surprised. “Ms. Summerton?”
Although he had seen Lexi before, it hadn’t been on office grounds. As a
part–time errand runner for this project, he only worked at night and rarely
encountered such a famous person close to the CEO.
He remembered helping this beautiful woman driving a BMW get out of a
staged accident in front of the cafe back then. However, he couldn’t
understand why she was accompanying Mackenzie home now.
“Hi, Mr. Lowe. I am Ms. Quillen’s friend. We were drinking just now, and she got
-drunk. As such, I had to send her back!”
“Oh, thank you.” He quickly expressed his gratitude and was about to support
Mackenzie from Lexi’s hands. Sigh, why do you resort to drinking whenever
you’re angry? You’re a woman, and even more than that, you’re a goddess.
“Go away! Don’t touch me!” Although Mackenzie was drunk, she was still
conscious. Before he could touch her, she forcefully slapped him away.
At her reaction, he frowned instantly. Goodness, this is embarrassing. She’s
acting like I’ve committed some sort of unforgivable offense.
When Lexi noticed the situation, she couldn’t help but force a smile. “It seems
you need to put more effort into comforting your wife, Mr. Lowe. I’ll get going
now.”
“Alright, thank you.” Emmanuel suppressed his anger and thanked her once
again.
After closing the door, he turned around and noticed that Mackenzie had
already collapsed onto the couch. Due to the effects of alcohol, her
movements were ten times wilder than usual.
In any case, her behavior was completely different from his first impression
of her.
“If you have something on your mind, you can tell me, Ms. Quillen. You don’t
have to go out drinking every time. You said I got into fights four times a
month after our marriage, but you’ve been drunk three times a month too.”
He voiced out his emotions.
This only infuriated Mackenzie further. I got drunk every time because of you!
However, she chose not to say anything and emitted an icy aura as she
replied, “Does it have anything to do with you? I’ll drink if I want to. You can go
and drink with Ms. Lenoir if you want to!”
“Let me get this straight, Ms. Quillen. Ms. Lenoir is both my patient and my
friend. She got injured during the game, and I was just escorting her home.
That’s all,” he quickly explained the situation.
Yet, she laughed coldly. “She got injured during the game, but why did you
have to carry her home? What is she to you? Your wife?”
“My relationship with her is not what you think it is,” he further explained. “I’ve
known her for three years. That’s way before I even met you, Ms. Quillen.
Believe it or not, our relationship is platonic.”
Hearing that, she stood up directly and sneered. “You’re finally showing your
true colors. So, you’ve been looking for a wealthy woman all along, eh? Did
you only marry me for my grandfather’s money?”
He instantly let out a sigh, feeling greatly disappointed that she would say
such things. “Let me make you a cup of tea to sober up. After you drink it, take
a shower and rest early.”
“Why? Did I hit the nail on the head? You can’t even be bothered to explain
anymore, huh?”
“Please stop making baseless accusations.” Emmanuel was generally
easygoing, but he had his limits too. Mackenzie’s accusations about him
made his temper flare up, and they faced each other directly, locking eyes.
“We signed a contract back then. Besides appeasing my mother and making
her happy, what other benefits do I get from marrying you?”
In fact, Mackenzie understood what he meant. If he married her for money, it
would have been better for him to marry Claudette when he didn’t know she
5/5
was the daughter of the Quillen family. That woman is clearly throwing
herself at him. I can’t help feeling uncomfortable, that’s all. Sigh, I don’t feel
like myself anymore. This feels terrible. It feels like I’ve been dragged down to
a lower level by this idiot!
