“I’ve killed him!”
“What?!”
After hearing Emmanuel’s words, Mackenzie couldn’t care less about
preserving her modesty. Surprised, she instinctively tried to rise from her seat.
However, the limited space inside the car forced her to sit back down. With
cold eyes, she glared at Emmanuel and exclaimed, “How could you do such a
thing? The Lenoir family already holds you responsible for Claudette’s death,
and now you’ve taken Tobias‘ life. Do you understand the grave
consequences this will bring?”
“I don’t care about any of that!” he replied.
Emmanuel’s composure was far calmer than Mackenzie had anticipated. He
wore a faint smile as he continued, “You’re my wife! I couldn’t control my
anger when I saw other men mistreat you like that. I will bear the
consequences alone, and I won’t let it burden you or the Quillens!”
“Y–You foolish man!” Mackenzie’s voice resonated with anger, yet her heart
overflowed with warm affection.
Just moments ago, she had questioned whether Emmanuel could even be
considered a man, but now she was certain. He was undeniably a man–a
true man filled with bravery..
In a fit of rage, he had directly confronted the young master of a prominent
family, an act that few men in Yeringham would dare to undertake.
After a moment of contemplation, Mackenzie let out a sigh and said, “You
took Tobias‘ life for my sake. I will definitely stand by you in facing the
consequences.”
Although Emmanuel was deeply moved, a sense of unease lingered within
him.
He had never intended to provoke a conflict with the Lenoir family or burden
Mackenzie. How did things escalate to this point?
Nevertheless, he harbored no regrets about the current situation. He was
intrigued to see how the Lenoir family would react next.
Regardless, he was determined not to let this matter weigh on his wife.
Mackenzie already had her hands full with her business affairs. He couldn’t let
his troubles further distract her.
Within half a day, news of Tobias‘ demise had already begun to circulate.
In the afternoon, Mackenzie returned to the company for a meeting. She
stepped out of the conference room, only to find her grandfather and Alfred
waiting in her office.
But that wasn’t all–Felicity and Sarah were also present.
“Grandpa, what brings all of you here?” Mackenzie addressed Terence
directly.
“Mackenzie, why is Emmanuel back at the police station again? How did
Tobias die? The Lenoir family is now completely turning against us!” Terence’s
voice trembled with anxiety as he tapped his cane.
“Grandpa, don’t worry! I won’t let anything happen to Emmanuel. It’s the
Lenoir family’s fault, and if they want to turn against us, just let them do so!”
Mackenzie maintained a strong presence, showing no sign of fear.
“Mackenzie, don’t be foolish! Don’t make things difficult for me at this point.
Divorce Emmanuel and sever ties with him!” Felicity, who had been reserved
in front of Emmanuel, now had to make her stance clear to her daughter in
the face of this situation.
“That’s enough, Felicity! Why should I divorce Emmanuel just because of the
Lenoir family’s mistake?” Mackenzie retorted. “Tobias drugged me with
malicious intentions. As my husband, Emmanuel took him down to protect
me from harm. It’s legally self–defense. I’ve already instructed Lexi to hire a
lawyer. No matter how hard the Lenoir family tries to stir up trouble, it won’t
work!”
Felicity’s expression darkened with anger, and she was obviously restraining
herself.
Terence spoke slowly, his voice laced with understanding. “I see... So that’s
how it is! Haha! That boy certainly has courage! Well done!”
Sarah observed the expressions of her family, but she remained silent as
usual.
Whether in the Quillen family or the company, her position paled in
comparison to Mackenzie’s.
“Old Mr. Quillen and Mackenzie, regardless of the truth behind this matter,
Emmanuel was responsible for Claudette’s death in the past and now for
killing Tobias. As their aunt, I absolutely cannot accept Emmanuel continuing
as a part of the Quillen family!” Felicity could no longer contain herself. Being
Mackenzie’s mother, she believed she had the right to voice her opinion.
“Hmph! You hold no authority in deciding this matter!” Terence interjected
before Mackenzie could respond. “The Quillen family is mine, and I have the
final say in Mackenzie’s marriage. Emmanuel did nothing wrong in this
matter! If your eldest brother wants to be unreasonable and come after me,
I’m not afraid of him!”
Felicity bit her lower lip hard, her eyes brimming with resentment.
