Chapter 1939
"You kidnapped James’ child?”
Both of them were baffled.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, Cynthia laughed. "Maxine, you're joking, right? Why would you kidnap James’ child?"
Maxine cast a glance at Cynthia. As she looked over, Cynthia simply felt chills all over her body, like she was in an abyss.
Maxine's stare was frightening. Cynthia had never seen her like this before. She backed up a little, taking a few steps.
Maxine said nonchalantly, "That's right. I kidnapped James’ child. I did so much for him. I worked in the public eye and rose to
become the head of the Cadens. I assisted him wholeheartedly. Regardless, he decided to live in seclusion with Thea."
She spoke softly as if she were talking about a trivial matter, but her words were laced with resentment and displeasure.
After hearing that, they were both stunned. For a while, neither of them said anything.
The atmosphere in the room was a little unusual.
Then, the doorbell began to ring.
"I-I'll go open the door." Cynthia gathered herself and quickly walked toward the entrance. She opened the door and saw that it
was James. She looked at James and called out to him, "James."
James had rushed over here. As soon as he entered the house, he could not help but ask, "Has Maxine arrived?"
"S-She’s here,” said Cynthia.
She wanted to alert James that Maxine was being a little odd. However, James had already entered the house in a hurry after
learning that Maxine had arrived.
When he was in the living room, he saw Maxine seated on the sofa. She was the same, just as gorgeous and charming as
before. Nonetheless, the moment James saw Maxine, the anger in his heart swelled up.
However, he stifled it.
Winnie was currently not in Cansington. If he flew into a rage, Maxine would be angered. It would be a problem if she hurt the
child.
He remained composed as he walked over and sat across Maxine.
"I'm here."
Maxine looked at him with a calm expression. Her face was devoid of any emotion. What she was thinking about was unclear.
James took a deep breath, glanced at Maxine, who had a serene expression on her face, and forced a smile. He said, “It's been
a while, Maxine. Are you alright? I've heard that you built a Floret Palace. I wanted to pay you a visit and catch up, but I’ve been
extremely busy lately. I couldn't find the time.”
“Really?” Maxine countered calmly, "Did you really want to stop by and catch up with me?"
"Mhm. Really." James nodded solemnly.
If he could establish a cordial relationship with Maxine right now, he would do just that. He would use as many kind words as he
could, even if they were against his conscience.
As long as his child could be safe, nothing else mattered.
"I've also heard that you're with Sky and have become the Tacriyrus’ Chancellor, assisting Sky in managing Tacriyrus.
Congratulations,” James said with a smile.
However, when he said that, Maxine's expression changed immediately. Her face darkened and she asked coldly, "James, what
do you mean by that?"
James was stunned. He did not know what he had said wrong.
After giving it some thought, he said, "Maxine, I didn't mean anything by that. Let's stop talking about this. Let's talk about the
state of the future. You've always been smart. Right now, the apocalypse is approaching. I went back to live in the Southern
Plains and established Dragonville to create a peaceful country for humanity. Previously, Thea even asked me to come over to
you and ask for your assistance.”
Maxine took a deep breath. She forced herself to calm down. Then she asked, "By the way, where is Thea exactly?"
James’ expression became somber. He said, "I really don't know where Thea is. She's been missing for six months. During the
last six months, I've sent people out to find her, but even after searching everywhere in the world, I couldn't find her."
James lied.
“Really?” Maxine looked skeptical.
"Mhm. Really." James nodded and said, "After the child was born, she came to meet me at Mt. Thunder Pass and we cultivated
together for six months. We had a fight, then she left and never showed up again. I really don't know where she is right now."
Cynthia and Tiara were standing off to the side, listening to the two's simple conversation.
They both looked at each other, but neither of them spoke. They did not know what had happened either.
James had entered the house for quite some time.
However, he never mentioned his child. Instead, he talked about the relationship between him and Thea. He talked about fights
and breakups and other things along those lines.
