Chapter 1078
Upon seeing Evelyn’s smile, Thalassa felt a wave of relief wash over her.
Back in the day, when it was just her and her mom raising four kids, Thalassa spent most of her time working to make ends
meet, while Evelyn stayed home to care for the little
ones.
The four kids were Evelyn’s pride and joy, raised by her own hand, and the source of all her bragging rights.
Thalassa’s words of praise hit Evelyn right in the feels, and she couldn’t help but beam with happiness.
The somber mood that had been pressing down on them lifted with a few words from Thalassa, and Evelyn squeezed her hand
again. Noticing Thalassa’s chapped lips, she said with concern, “Let me get you some water.”
She got up to grab the water pitcher, only to find it empty.
“I’ll go fetch some water,” Evelyn said, taking the pitcher with her as she left the room.
No sooner had Evelyn left than Hertha plopped down beside Thalassa’s bed, her face lit up with the kind of curiosity that only the
juiciest gossip could inspire.
“So, I heard from Evelyn that you took off last night with a guy named Callum, and you even made sure to take your four
munchkins with you. What gives? Is there a little something-something going on between you and Callum?”
Hertha’s face was alight with mirth, her eyes dancing with eager anticipation as she waited for the scoop.
Hertha lived for gossip, whether it was someone else’s dirty laundry or the scandalous tales of her closest friends. When it came
to Thalassa’s life, her interest was more piqued
than ever.
Thalassa had once been sweet on Leopold, but he’d been gone for some time now. Surely, she couldn’t be expected to pine
forever for a man who’d left this world, could she?
Caught off guard by Hertha’s eager gaze, Thalassa felt her heart skip a beat.
Had she really not thought it through, leaving with Callum and the kids? Even her best friend thought she had feelings for
Callum, taking off with Lysander’s children in tow.
No wonder Lysander had jumped to conclusions.
Thalassa had been so desperate to get away from Lysander and so rattled by Bruce’s threats that all she could think about was
escaping the turmoil. She hadn’t paused to consider the implications of running off with Callum.
“Come on, Thalassa, don’t leave me hanging,” Hertha nudged, giving her a gentle shake.

Chapter 1078
Snapped back to reality by Hertha’s prodding, Thalassa looked into her friend’s gossip-thirsty eyes and responded with a sigh,
“You know me. How could I possibly bring chaos into someone else’s life, being a single mom?”
“Self-control is one thing, but a fluttering heart is another,” Hertha said. “You never seemed to want to stay by Lysander’s side, no
matter what. Could it be because you never really
had the hots for him?”
Hertha’s question sent Thalassa’s heart into overdrive, the kind that left her feeling flustered and out of control.
The thought of her relationship with Lysander stirred anxiety within her, causing her heart to race out of control.
She had never felt the inclination to stand by Lysander, and was it because she hadn’t truly harbored feelings for him?
No, that wasn’t it.
She was wary of Lysander, afraid of his ruthless methods and cold-heartedness.
Who would want to stay by the side of a heartless devil?
“Hertha, what on earth are you thinking? How could there be anything romantic between
Callum and me? We’ve barely known each other,” Thalassa said, coming to her senses. She playfully flicked Hertha’s forehead,
feigning annoyance.
“Then why did you leave with Callum? And why did he agree to take you? If there’s no love between you two, it makes no sense
that you’d run off together,” Hertha pressed. She had been so wrapped up in work recently that she hadn’t spent much time with
Thalassa.
