Chapter 1222
Thalassa could feel Lysander’s anger seeping into her skin like a frigid breeze, tensing every muscle in her body. She dared not
take his mood lightly.
Her long lashes flickered as she looked up at him. “Callum came to see me today. It was about Debby. I didn’t have any ulterior
motives, and I definitely don’t plan on running away again...”
She was cut off abruptly as Lysander’s hand clamped around her chin, his deep-set eyes flashing a warning chill. “If you even
think of running away again, it won’t be just his legs I’ll break!”
A twinge of pain shot through Thalassa’s jaw where he held her, causing her to furrow her brow. “You’re hurting me.”
There was a fleeting softness in Lysander’s gaze as he slightly eased his grip.
Feeling a bit of relief, Thalassa continued, “He’s Debby’s cousin, and he was hoping you’d show her some mercy, maybe lessen
her sentence.”
She didn’t hide anything from Lysander, telling him everything about her conversation with Callum that was centered around
Debby’s situation.
Lysander tilted her face up to his with his index finger, his stern visage confronting her. “So, are you pleading for her?” His voice
was low and frosty.
Locking eyes with him, Thalassa’s heart tightened. She had always been wary and frightened of Lysander, especially now, with
him in such a furious state.
Her fear deepened.
But the more she shrank back, the angrier Lysander might become. Only by facing him. head-on could she clear away his
doubts.
“Maybe reducing it by half, to say, ten years, wouldn’t be so bad,” Thalassa ventured.
Lysander’s gaze turned piercing, the chill in the car so palpable that the air felt thin.
Fearing his reaction, Thalassa hurriedly added, “I’m not looking to forgive Debby. I just don’t want to owe Callum anything.”
His eyes bore into her, waiting for her to continue.
Taking a deep breath, Thalassa went on, “Callum risked his own safety to help me and the kids get away, which cost him a
broken leg. I owe him for that. If settling Debby’s matter can repay that debt, then Callum and I are square.”
As she spoke, Thalassa kept an eye on Lysander’s expression, avoiding to provoke him further.

Chapter 1222
She had chosen her words carefully, trying to be as clear and straightforward as possible. Lysander’s icy demeanor thawed
slightly. In the dim light of the car, his face was an unreadable mask, shifting between shadow and light.
“You want to be even with him?” he asked, his voice a deep rumble.
Nodding eagerly, Thalassa confirmed, “Yes, owing someone just doesn’t sit right with me. It feels like I have to be more lenient
with them. If I don’t owe anything, I can follow my own heart without any guilt.”
Her earnest gaze met Lysander’s, her clear eyes reflecting sincerity.
Lysander watched her quietly, his expression unreadable and his eyes growing deeper
still.
With him staring her down, Thalassa’s initial confidence ebbed away, replaced by a creeping panic. “You...”
“Okay,” Lysander said abruptly.
Thalassa blinked in confusion, not immediately grasping what his agreement meant.
When it dawned on her, her eyes widened in surprise. “You agree?”
She had expected pleading for Debby to be an uphill battle, and yet, Lysander had agreed so easily!
Her willingness to advocate for Debby wasn’t born out of forgiveness or sympathy, but as she had stated, to repay a debt to
Callum.
Even if Callum hadn’t asked her directly, she would’ve found another way to settle her debt with him. But since Callum had made
the request, fulfilling his wish seemed the best way of repayment.
Besides, Thalassa had learned that Debby’s crime would’ve normally resulted in a ten-year sentence. It was Lysander’s pressure
that had doubled it to twenty.
