Chapter 1296
Thalassa’s gaze on Susan was like staring at a snake in the grass. With each
smug curl of Susan's lips, a smoldering anger built within her, itching to leap forth
in the form of a stinging slap across her smirking face.
And then there were the others, Lucy and Bruce, tightening her chest with scorn.
But Ethan was right. Even if she couldn't muster the will to do it for herself, she
had to think about her children.
Swallowing the bile of her rage, Thalassa spoke up, “Mr. Ethan's right. The
flowers were meant for Susan, as a thank you for saving Lysander.”
Susan reared up like she'd been struck by lightning, her face twisting into an ugly
snarl as she pointed accusingly at Thalassa. “Thank me? What right have you to
thank me on behalf of Lysander? You're nothing to him. Just a plaything he hasn't
grown tired of yet. Soon enough, he'll kick you to the curb. And here you are,
shamelessly offering thanks in his stead. How dare you?”

She dared to lash out at Thalassa, even with Ethan present, not caring if word
got back to Lysander.
After all, she believed in Lysander’s eyes, Thalassa was an attempted murderer
while she was his savior.
Lysander’s newfound favor towards her was undeniable, a sentiment recently
affirmed when he had sent her some fruit as a gesture of his concern.
Thalassa had been biting back her fury while addressing Susan, but the latter's
vitriolic accusations were the last straw. With a rage that burned like wildfire and
threatened to burst from her chest, Thalassa lunged forward in an unanticipated
move.
With a swift motion, her hand flew out and “smack!"—the slap cracked across
Susan's cheek with an echo that reverberated through the ward.
Susan's face jerked to the side, her eyes wide with shock, her cheek stinging
fiercely as a ringing filled her ears.
Lucy, who had been delicately peeling an apple, a gift from Lysander as precious
as a golden apple from Greek mythology, stood frozen. She had been moments
away from feeding it to Susan, elevating her status with each bite.
But before Susan could bite the fruit, her face was violently turned aside by
Thalassa’s blow.
The apple in Lucy's hand hovered as confusion took over,

Bruce was the first to snap out of the daze. His beloved daughter had been
