Chapter 1318
Set in the high-stakes world of luxury and power, the Sinclair estate was a
beacon of wealth and prestige. Lysander Sinclair, dressed in a sharp black shirt
and tailored trousers, exuded an aura of untouchable authority, his presence as
chilling as a winter's gale. His eyes, cold and calculating, held a glint of danger.
Striding out of his grand mansion, he was followed closely by his trusted aide,
David, who hurried to deliver the latest news. “Mr. Sinclair,” David reported
breathlessly, “Bruce has been caught up in allegations of fraud and money
laundering. He's been taken into custody.”
Since returning from the commercial shoot, Lysander had moved swiftly against
Bruce. Previously, the man’s deceit was limited to moral transgressions, hardly
enough to warrant legal action. But now, everything had changed. Lysander held
in his hands the evidence needed to bring Bruce down for his financial crimes.
With an icy composure, Lysander settled into the back of his Rolls-Royce, while
David, his footsteps echoing his anxiety, took the driver's seat. As he started the
engine, he reported to Lysander, “Captain Payne is asking for more evidence.”
“We'll get it,” Lysander replied, his voice as cold as steel. “Trace the origin of
every penny he’s invested in the stock market. And find a witness for the fraud
charges.”
“Yes, Mr. Sinclair.” David affirmed, nodding solemnly.
As the Rolls-Royce began to pull away from Royal Estates, a sudden figure
dashed into the path of the luxury vehicle. David, with quick reflexes, slammed
on the brakes, narrowly avoiding a collision. The car jerked to a halt, and while
David was still reeling from the close call, he recognized that the woman in their
way was Thalassa’s mother, Evelyn!
Evelyn approached the car in a state of utter urgency, resting her hands on the
window, pleaded, “Lysander, I need a moment of your time. Could you spare a
few minutes for a few words?”
Despite her desperation, Evelyn was cautious not to overstep her bounds with
Lysander. David, wary of his boss's foul mood, subtly signaled to Evelyn that this
was not the best time to trouble Lysander. Yet, consumed by anxiety, Evelyn
ignored the warning and continued, “Lysander, it will only take a few minutes...”
David watched nervously, fearing Evelyn's boldness might provoke Lysander’s
ire.
“Get in!” To everyone's surprise, Lysander’s stern voice cut through the tension,
devoid of
anger.
David was taken aback, but he quickly complied, unlocking the vehicle's doors
for Evelyn.
Evelyn hesitated for a moment. Realizing Lysander had indeed invited her in, she
opened the rear door and slid into the seat behind him.
