Chapter 759
Lily’s got herself a beau, right? They’re tying the knot by the end of the year,” someone mentioned.
Lily concurred, “Yes, I am getting married by year-end. Ms. Everhart, you’re in the prime of your youth too. Jason is a catch,
handsome and all. Good relationships don’t just fall in your lap, you know.”
Thalassa was taken aback; she hadn’t realized Lily got a boyfriend.
Being told by her peer, Lily, to seize the opportunity of love, all eyes turned to Thalassa, filled with anticipation and good-natured
teasing.
Feeling cornered, Thalassa hadn’t expected a plain company dinner to become a spectacle before she even had her first bite.
She stole a glance at Jason, who was looking at her with an earnest expression.
Thalassa caught her breath. She realized this wasn’t a joke.
Jason was using the crowd’s enthusiasm to confess to her in disguise and get her to accept him.
Thalassa picked up her glass of water and took a sip to mask her discomfort. She could hardly avoid responding under so many
expectant gazes. Setting down her glass, she responded playfully, “Well, our Mr. Ethan is still on the market, and he’s arguably
the most handsome guy in our company. We’re about the same age, so even if nothing comes of it, having a fling with such a
catch like Ethan in the bloom of our youth would make life worthwhile, don’t you think, Mr. Ethan?”
With a teasing look in her eyes, she turned her gaze to Ethan.
That’s the outcome of him just standing by and doing nothing while she was being pushed into a corner.
After all, it was Ethan who had invited her here. Now she was hounded into an impromptu matchmaking session, with him not
uttering a single word in her defense. So she would let him bear the consequences.
Ethan twitched his eyebrow. Her defiant gaze lit up a hint of amusement in his eyes.
Was Thalassa trying to push him into the spotlight?
If Lysander heard this, he might give Ethan a hard time.
Thalassa wasn’t as naive and sweet as she seemed. She was quite adept at setting traps.
As Thalassa finished her remark, everyone’s anticipatory gaze turned into disbelief. They glanced at Ethan, then quickly looked
away, pretending to be engrossed in their food and not care about Thalassa’s words.
Thalassa sure had guts. She was literally declaring her interest in Mr. Ethan in public.
So she didn’t fancy Jason because she was setting her sights higher; she wanted to be with Mr. Ethan.
The colleagues all present held their tongues, afraid to draw Mr. Ethan’s attention.
But Betty’s smile, upon hearing Thalassa’s words, froze. Her hand tightened around her glass. Thalassa was interested in Mr.
Ethan too?
How dare she vie for Mr. Ethan’s attention?
Betty’s breath hitched. She anxiously looked at Ethan, afraid he might suggest giving it a shot.
But Ethan just set his glass down. He said as a smile played on his lips, “I’m a good-looking guy indeed, but I’m also way out of
your league. You all should focus on your work and stop daydreaming.”
His teasing words defused the tense atmosphere easily.
Betty breathed a sigh of relief and decided not to push Thalassa to accept Jason. Her smile returned as she said, “Let’s get back
to our food, folks. The steak is getting cold.”
Jason withdrew his gaze from Thalassa and started eating. Thalassa saw his calm expression and wondered what he was
thinking, but it was none of her business. She didn’t say anything more and joined her colleagues in digging into the food.
“Hey!” Suddenly, someone tapped Thalassa’s shoulder from behind.
Startled, Thalassa immediately turned around.
