Chapter 977
How many lies had she spun in his presence?
She could have laid out the whole story of her kidnapping today, detail by detail, but instead, she dodged and weaved, piling lie
upon lie. Such careful deceit-who was she shielding?
Besides Callum, who else mattered so much to her that she would weave such webs of lies to protect them?
Lysander’s icy, haughty words struck her like a curse, hammering against Thalassa’s eardrums, buzzing in her head, her heart
skipping a
beat.
Tears suddenly welled up, silently spilling from the corners of her eyes.
She clenched her teeth tightly, stubbornly refusing to let out even a whimper.
All she wanted was to protect her mother. Fear of losing her mom meant she couldn’t risk even the slightest gamble.
And yet, Lysander subjected her to such suspicion, such punishment.
The bitterness in her heart was like a draught of wormwood, choking her.
Seeing her silent and crying, Lysander felt a tug at his heart, an aching wound.
He remembered how she looked after their intimate encounters-always with that same aggrieved expression.
Grinding his teeth, Lysander’s handsome face taut with muscles and eyes deepened, he breathed heavily, staring at Thalassa for
a few seconds before turning on his heel and leaving the office.
As Lysander departed, the wintry chill in the office slowly faded.
Thalassa’s pain and sense of injustice could no longer be contained; her tears flowed unrestrained, her sobs breaking the
silence.
Outside the office, Lysander paused at the sound of her crying, his spine stiffening, his fists clenching. He bit his lip and strode
away with long, brisk steps.
Once the floodgates of emotion were opened, they were hard to close. Thalassa cried until her feelings of oppression and pain
had somewhat eased.
Only then did she gradually stop sobbing.
Slowly, she got up from the couch, her legs wobbly, her back aching.
Enduring the pain, she picked up her clothes from the floor and put them on.
All the buttons were gone; it was impossible to fasten.
She found a stapler in Lysander’s office and used it to fasten her clothes.
After tidying herself up as best as she could, she leaned on the desk and chairs, making her way out of the office.
Reaching the entrance of Sinclair Group, she saw a black Rolls-Royce parked outside.
The luxurious black car shimmered with a mysterious, opulent allure under the neon lights of the city night.
Thalassa’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of the car, and she instinctively stopped in her tracks.
Standing there, she regarded the vehicle warily.
The window rolled down, revealing Lysander’s coldly handsome face, his sharp features bathed in the afterglow of the blue
neon, looking even more frigid.
“Come here!” Lysander commanded in a voice that brooked no argument.
With her nerves stretched tight, Thalassa approached despite her panic.
She opened the car door and sat down, Lysander’s imposing presence beside her so intimidating that she sat rigid, not daring to
relax.
The car started to move slowly, and Lysander’s phone began to ring.
He swiped to answer, putting it on speaker.
“Lysander, I’m at the hotel already. Where are you guys?” It was Dr. Everest on the line.
Hearing Dr. Everest’s voice, Thalassa’s heart clenched, her breathing slowed.
She remembered that Dr. Everest was supposed to examine her!
