Chapter 248
Jonathan bent down slightly and approached Rosalie’s ear, asking softly, “Is it?”
Rosalie felt embarrassed while remaining silent, not knowing how to answer the question.
Wilma sighed and took Rosalie’s hand. She then said, “You’ll have to hurry up, then. Otherwise, I won’t have the chance to
attend your wedding.”
Rosalie was stunned upon hearing that. Only when Wilma held her hand like this did she realize that her grandmother was
thinner than before. With such a grip, Rosalie could clearly feel the bones of Wilma’s fingers.
It was as if there was only a thin piece of skin wrapped around the finger bones, without the feeling of flesh and blood. Wilma
was actually even older than Rosalie thought.
Rosalie could not help but feel bitterness in her heart, and her face was naturally full of sadness.
“Hey, why are you feeling sad again?” Wilma gently patted Rosalie on the back of her hand and said, “I’m relieved to see you
have a good life and someone to take care of you now. I can finally see and tell your mother in the afterlife about you.”
“Granny, please don’t say that!” Rosalie said anxiously. Superstitious or not, she was really afraid that Wilma would leave the
world like this. To Rosalie, Wilma was the only one who really treated her as a family now.
“Okay, okay. I won’t say that again. I have to live for a few more years before I can witness you get married. It’s even better to
see you give birth to a child,” Wilma said with a laugh.
Rosalie finally relaxed and took out the pastries bought for Wilma, letting her try some.
The three of them chatted about something else. Wilma asked Jonathan about his family. After learning that Jonathan had only
his grandfather, with his father having passed away and his mother abandoning him when he was very young, Wilma could not
help but show sympathy in her eyes.
“Your experience is quite similar to Rosalie’s. Rosalie’s mother also passed away, and Rosalie stayed with me for a long time.
since then.” Wilma suddenly remembered something and said, “Come on. I still have photos of Rosalie from her childhood.
Would you like to have a look?”
“I would like to.” Jonathan did not refuse.
Rosalie felt a little embarrassed. “Granny!”
“Go on. Do me a favor to get the photo album,” Wilma instructed Rosalie.
Hence, under the double gazes of Jonathan and Wilma, Rosalie had no choice but to bring over the old photo album.
Wilma then asked Jonathan to join her in looking at the photos in the album. Each time she flipped to a photo of Rosalie, Wilma
would tell Jonathan about the situation and the story behind it.
Although Wilma had become old, she had a good memory and could remember many things clearly, even some small details.
When the album was turned to a certain page, Jonathan’s eyes suddenly narrowed. He stared at a photo and asked, “Who is
this?”
“Oh, this is Rosalie’s cousin Fiona and also the daughter of my third daughter,” Wilma answered.
Rosalie also explained, “She’s the one who was in the living room just now. Fiona.”
“So that’s her,” Jonathan thought with a smile, looking at the person in the photo playfully. “You looked quite similar to her when
she was a child, but now both of you look very different.”
“Yeah. We looked quite similar for a certain time when we were children,” Rosalie replied. “At that time, Fiona and I would
sometimes be mistaken for each other, but as we grew up, our features developed differently, and we then looked less alike.”
“Good. Luckily, both of you look different,” Jonathan murmured, thinking that he did not want that kind of woman to have the
same face as Rosalie.
However, they looked like each other when they were children, which was quite a good thing for Jonathan.
Jonathan’s eyelashes trembled slightly as the man drooped his eyes. It was as if his long eyelashes covered the thoughts and
plans in his eyes at that moment.
Jonathan and Rosalie stayed for dinner. When the evening approached, Luke came back. His attitude toward Rosalie was very
cold, even worse toward Jonathan.
Luke’s attitude was not a surprise to Rosalie. But looking at his attitude toward Jonathan, she looked at Jonathan worriedly.
After all, with Jonathan’s identity, no one would dare to treat him with such an attitude.
However, Jonathan smiled lightly at Rosalie as if he had noticed her concern and signaled with his eyes, informing her not to get
worried.
This made Rosalie feel relieved.
Wilma was quite happy during the meal and had a better appetite than usual.
While having the meal, Fiona could not help but say in a sardonic tone, “Granddad, you have no idea that Rosalie has now left
the Environment and Sanitation Administration and is working as a delivery rider. Although the job is tiring, it seems she can still
make some money if she works harder.”
“What’s the point of mentioning her being an errand runner?” Luke said disdainfully. “After all these years of studying, it’s very
shameful to only end up as an errand runner.”
Rosalie’s face turned slightly pale when Wilma had already spoken for her. “You old man, what nonsense are you talking about?
Rosalie’s self-reliant now, and she’s neither stealing nor robbing! There’s nothing to be ashamed of!”
“If she had known that, why did she study so much back then? She might as well just work early like Fiona,” said Luke. Fiona
took the opportunity to speak up. “Well, Rosalie, I thought you could be more determined and proactive to save face for our
family. Yet, who would have thought that you, a law student, would end up breaking the law by drunk driving? Don’t do that again
in the future. You’ve already embarrassed us enough in this town the last time you went to prison.” Wilma was obviously furious
after hearing that. Rosalie was afraid Wilma would get mad, which could affect her health, so she hurriedly tried to mediate the
situation. Even if she knew that Fiona was criticizing her, Rosalie still smiled lightly and said, “I’ve learned my lesson once. Do
you think I won’t remember it?”
When Fiona was feeling smug after thinking that her words had overwhelmed Rosalie, another voice suddenly rose. “I don’t think
this is a thing to be ashamed of. With Rosalie being self-reliant like this, she’s much prouder than many others.”
As Jonathan spoke, he looked at Rosalie with affection and doting.
The action made Fiona jealous of Rosalie again. She thought, “What’s good about Rosalie? This man looks at Rosalie like she’s
the only one who exists in his eyes.”
If it were in the past, it was still reasonable for the man to behave as such because Rosalie was an elite lawyer. But now, the
latter was just a woman who had once gone to prison.
Fiona could not figure out what Jonathan saw in Rosalie.
Rosalie met Jonathan’s gaze and felt warm in her heart, thinking that this man was always defending her at all times.
On the other hand, Wilma, who witnessed all this in her eyes, was secretly satisfied.
After the meal, Rosalie was about to leave. Before leaving, she said reluctantly, “Granny, when you get better in the future, I will
take you to Strico and have some special snacks over there.”
