Chapter 534
Jealousy surged incessantly within Fiona as she observed Calvin’s eyes fixating on Rosalie’s back. “I wonder how are Rosalie
and Jonathan now. Although they’ve broken up, I heard they still frequently keep in touch.”
Fiona’s last sentence was wholly baseless, simply meant to arouse Calvin’s disgust of Rosalie.
To her dismay, once she said that, Calvin turned his head and looked at her with a particularly icy gaze.
Fiona trembled, sensing that her thoughts were about to be seen through.
“Fiona, you should know that Rosalie is the one I love. I don’t wish to hear you speak badly of her before me again.” Calvin
stated coldly.
Fiona mumbled, “I... I’m not. I just-”
“Just what?” Calvin’s dark, emotionless eyes, accompanied by his frosty voice, made her feel as if there was an invisible
pressure around her, leaving her almost breathless.
Fiona was a little stunned. Ever since she pretended to be the childhood Rosalie and reunited with Calvin, he had always been
gentle and polite to her. Even when she did something wrong at times, he never once faulted her.
Yet now, he was being so aloof.
Suddenly, her mind flashed with the comments about Calvin she had seen online.
She thought, ‘Aloof, cold-hearted, and ruthless... Maybe this is the real him, and the Calvin I once thought I knew was merely a
facade he put on because he believed I was his life savior...
In fact, that kind of gentleness and tolerance of his is just for that little girl who saved him in his childhood! It’s not truly for
me!
And now that he’s fallen for Rosalie, this gentleness and tolerance has been shifted to her?
As this idea ran through Fiona’s mind, all she felt was her body gradually freezing up.
“Fiona, you saved me, so no matter what happens in the future, I will ensure you live a luxurious, worry-free life,” Calvin stated
frigidly. “But what I feel for you is merely that friendship we had as children. There is nothing else.”
This revelation was undoubtedly like a hard slap across her face, causing her cheeks to burn up in mortification. Even though he
had hinted obscurely, Fiona knew Calvin was warning her not to think about anything she shouldn’t!
Meanwhile, at the mention of Calvin’s words, something glinted in the eyes of that ace manager, who was standing behind
Fiona.
The manager thought, ‘Looks like Mr. Gunner indeed has nothing to do with this Fiona except for their childhood bond. Pfft! To
think she’s always liked showing off about how good her relationship with Mr. Gunner is to others. What a joke! Sometimes, the
more high-profile one is now, the more likely they will fall to rock bottom in the future. By then, if she really provokes Mr. Gunner
and causes him to lose the sole affection he has left for her, she can only go back to square one.’
The ace manager stared stonily at Fiona with traces of mockery and disdain in his eyes, thinking, “Despite having opportunities
and resources, some people are destined to achieve nothing, considering their vision and limitations!”
Concurrently, Rosalie came to Irene and Warren and said, “Hello, Mr. York, Ms. Fletcher!”
“It’s you.” Warren looked at the woman in front of him with slight surprise, for he had seen her several times before. He
remembered that she was likely Jonathan’s woman.
Moreover, Rosalie had taken care of Aiden before. In other words, she was definitely acquainted with Amelia.
In an instant, Warren’s mind flickered with Amelia’s face again.
“I’m Rosalie Leighton, the representative lawyer in charge of Ms. Amelia Haab’s custody case.” Rosalie introduced herself.
As soon as Amelia’s name was brought up, Irene, standing beside Warren, abruptly frowned. “What are you here for? Did Amelia
ask you to plead for her? We won’t compromise about the custody of the child. He will only live a hard life with her.” Rosalie’s
gaze fell on Irene’s face. The latter was not mesmerizingly beautiful and was only considered decent-looking, but her fragile
appearance worked wonders at evoking the desire of men’s instinct to protect.
“No, Ms. Haab didn’t ask me to plead on her behalf. I’m here today specifically for you, Ms. Fletcher.” Rosalie looked straight
at Irene.
“For me?” Irene was momentarily taken aback. “What reason could you possibly have?”
“Of course, I have one,” Rosalie answered indifferently. “You’ve been sending people to cause trouble at Ms. Haab’s food cart
non-stop lately. I’m here to ask you when you plan to stop, Ms. Fletcher.”
Hearing Rosalie’s words, Irene immediately furrowed her brows unhappily. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.
“If you really do not admit it, Ms. Fletcher, then I can only hand over the evidence to the cops. By then, the Fletcher family will
probably suffer a hit in reputation, and even the image of the York family will be affected,” Rosalie proclaimed. Naturally, she had
no evidence to speak of and was merely bluffing Irene.
Sure enough, Irene’s countenance turned extremely gloomy in a trice. “How could you possibly have evidence-” She
subconsciously wanted to deny it, but the moment she said that, she instantly realized she had given herself away.
Warren narrowed his cold eyes and peered at Irene, who bit her lip awkwardly and wore yet another piteous look.
“You’ll naturally know if I have evidence when we bring this matter to the police station,” said Rosalie.
Then, she turned to Warren once more. “Mr. York, I reckon if you really want to contest for custody, you will do so fairly instead of
pulling such petty tricks, yeah? Otherwise, even if you win, what will Aiden think if he finds out that his father used such
despicable means?”
Warren’s face darkened at once. “What? Are you threatening me, Ms. Leighton?”
“It’s not a threat, just an advice!” Rosalie responded coolly. “I don’t know what kind of grudges you two have, but without having
been in her shoes, one will never understand the misery of a woman who was incarcerated for more than three years and even
gave birth in prison.”
Warren’s expression became increasingly grim, and his eyes flickered a little.
“That’s all I have to say. All I hope is that we can keep the argument in court and quit using such petty tricks outside of it. That is
unless... you guys genuinely think it’s impossible for you to win the case, so you’re resorting to such lowly means to win it,”
Rosalie concluded. Her final sentence was laced with provocation, albeit she didn’t know if it would work on Warren
or not.
