The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike

Chapter 948
Her hand holding the steering wheel began to sweat. She hadn’t felt like that for a long time since she started driving again. Her
heart palpitated uncontrollably. She couldn’t shake off the sense of uneasiness in her chest.
She thought, “Will Jon forgive me? He mentioned anyone could betray him except for me.”
Yet, at that moment, he had done something like that and even attempted to sedate him because of Kaylie. At the thought of
seeing him drinking the vegetable beef soup she prepared for him and lying on the bed, Rosalie felt her heart ache.
She thought, “Quit dwelling on it. The most important thing I need to do now is send Mr. and Mrs. Smuckler out of Strico.”
As long as she arrived at the highway intersection, the person who helped her find out where Connor and Kaylie were located
would take over and take them to the expressway. Then, everything would be fine. The car gradually approached the entrance of
the expressway. Rosalie could already see those familiar words on the roadsign!
However, when the car got closer and closer to the expressway, she was stunned. She slowly loosened her foot from the
accelerator pedal while her hands, holding the steering wheel, trembled.
The familiar figure entered her vision through the windshield in front of the car.
Seeing that the car was about to collide with the person, Rosalie suddenly came back to her senses and hurriedly stepped on
the brake.
The car stopped, but she still looked at the figure standing outside in a daze.
She thought, “Why is Jon here? Shouldn’t he still be asleep? I put a certain amount of sleeping pills in his soup. He shouldn’t
wake up for at least eight hours!”
Sweat drenched her palms. The uneasiness that lingered in her chest finally fell into place.
Connor, who was sitting in the back seat, also saw a row of black sedans parking at the highway entrance through the window.
Jonathan was standing in front of the entrance to Lofbury, and there were rows of men behind him.
Such a situation shocked Connor. Without Rosalie saying anything, he knew that his apprentice’s plan had failed, and it was
impossible for him to leave Strico now.

“Mr. Smuckler, you and your Mrs. Smuckler stay in the car first. I’ll get out of the car and have a word with Jon.” Rosalie took a
deep breath and unbuckled her seat belt with trembling hands.
When she opened the door and got out of the car, her legs seemed to have turned into jelly.
Rosalie walked toward Jonathan step by step, each of which felt so difficult.
And he just looked at her coldly. The cold moonlight fell on his handsome face, making him look more aloof.
“Jon...” Her lips trembled as she called him gently. “I’m sorry.”
“Rosie, you betrayed me.” His cold voice echoed, sounding particularly indifferent amidst the chilly night.
Her body trembled, and she heard him speaking further. “You once said that you would never betray me. It turns out that Mrs.
Smuckler, someone who has been with you for two or three years, can make you betray me so easily.”
“No. I did it because...” She wanted to explain, but his finger pressed against her lips and stopped her from continuing.
Then, her eyes suddenly widened, and she saw his other hand take out an amulet and a bottle of medicine from his pocket.
The amulet was the one Calvin gave her. She also used the address on the amulet to find Connor and Kaylie, and the bottle of
medicine was the sleeping pills she had prepared. That night, she also put sleeping pills in the vegetable beef soup she prepared
for Jonathan. Yet, now he, who should have fallen ásleep, was standing right in front of her at that moment.
“To find Mrs. Smuckler, you established contact with the people Calvin left for you and even drugged me.

Rosie, is this your way of showing your love for me?” He fiddled with the two things in his hand.
Rosalie’s face turned pale, and her throat was burning. She thought, “He knows about everything all along. Or perhaps
everything was within his control all along?”
“I’ve changed the medicine in your bottle into ordinary vitamins, so naturally, I wouldn’t fall asleep as you wished. As for the
person you found to help you today...” Jonathan glanced sideways, and Rosalie saw that the person who was going to help her
that night was standing not far away, obviously being restrained and unable to make any move.

The man looked at Rosalie awkwardly. He didn’t expect that the plan had already been known by the other party.
Now, he ended up getting caught between a rock and a hard place as he not only offended Jonathan, but would have faced
trouble reporting to Calvin.
“Did you already know what I was going to do?” Rosalie asked in a hoarse voice.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Then why did you wait for me here on purpose like this? Why didn’t you expose me from the beginning?” she asked.
He fixed his gaze on her, brushing strands of hair around her cheeks with his hand and gently tucking them behind her ear as he
often did. Then, he bent down slightly and said in a very light but cold voice, “Because I wanted to see what choice the woman I
love the most would make.”
‘She felt her heart sank as if falling into a bottomless abyss.
“But it turns out that the person I love most will choose to hurt me in the end,” he said.
“I just don’t want you to regret it in the future!” Rosalie said.
“Regret?” Jonathan sneered. “What regret do I have? What about you? Do you regret doing this? After all that you’ve done, your
effort is for naught.”
Rosalie thought, “Regret? But I had no other choice. I could only do this to allow Mrs. Smuckler to receive treatment first. Only
then could this matter not take a turn of no return.”
“Bring those two back,” Jonathan ordered his men.
“No!” Rosalie suddenly took Jonathan’s hand and said, “Mrs. Smuckler can’t go back. She needs treatment! Otherwise, she will
die if the high-grade fever persists!”
“Are you that desperate to help her?” He glared at her coldly.
“I know you hate her, but no matter how much you hate her, I don’t want your hands to be tainted with your own mother’s blood!
Jon, Mrs. Smuckler regrets everything she did in the past. What about you? Are you going to regret your actions someday as
well?”

“I will never regret it!” he said with certainty. “Rosie, from now on, you can leave this matter alone. Go back with me obediently,
and I pretend all these never happened today!”
