"You brat, how am I making things complicated? I'm taking care of Melody, alright? I just wanted to check on her, but you and your grandpa kept stopping me! Aren't you two worried about her living all alone?" Beatrice could not help but feel a pang of heartache at the thought of Melody cooking and doing laundry all alone.
"Melody is only temporarily moving out. It's not like she's permanently leaving. Why are you two being so cold toward her? Lucas, you better explain clearly what happened today. Otherwise, why won't you let me see her?"
Beatrice's intuition was always sharp, and Lucas found himself speechless. Initially, he had planned to let Melody video call Beatrice using his own phone to show that he had visited her, but then the unexpected happened.
"Grandma, there's so much going on at work every day. It would wear me out if I had to report everything to you. You can just call Melody if you want to see her. It's so easy now with smartphones. Even if you don't know how, Grandpa can help you, right?"
"Tsk, are you blaming me now? I just want you and Melody to have more time together, so you can give us a great-grandson sooner. It's not like we're insisting on a great-grandson; a great-granddaughter would be just as wonderful. Your grandpa and I would be very happy either way."
Beatrice and Cedric were both getting old, and Lucas was their only grandson, so they especially hoped to see him settle down and start a family soon. While he had already established his career, they still want to see him start a family.
Before meeting Melody, Lucas had shown little interest in women, causing even his elders to suspect whether he liked girls at all. Fortunately, everything fell into place after he met Melody. Thus, Beatrice and Cedric cherished their granddaughter-in-law deeply.
"Grandma, you're thinking too far ahead. We're still young. We don't want to have kids so soon," Lucas explained.
They chatted for a while more before hanging. Suddenly, Beatrice stood up from the sofa.
"You're not young anymore. Can you stop suddenly standing up so quickly? I thought something had happened," said Cedric.
Beatrice paid no heed. "I can't shake off my worries. I'm going to check on Melody no matter what."
Cedric looked sideways at her stubborn wife. "If neither of them wants you to go, isn't it better not to go? Melody moved out precisely because Miss Thalia is still staying with us. With things being so unclear, she must be feeling uneasy. She'll definitely become even more upset if you go knocking on her door now when Miss Thalia is still staying with us."
Beatrice knew what Cedric said made sense, but Lucas' evasive behavior only fueled her suspicions about what happened that day. She doubted she would have a peaceful night's sleep if she did not get to the bottom of it.
Melody was not expecting someone to knock on her door in the middle of the night. She asked cautiously, 'Who is it?'
