"Don't joke around like this." Melody's tone carried a hint of pleading. Her fragile heart could not withstand Lucas' repeated jokes. It might have been a casual remark to Lucas, but for Melody, it was another instance of him adding fuel to her infatuation. "I'm not joking. Why would you think I'm joking?" Lucas keenly sensed Melody's unease and added, "I'm downstairs right now." Melody's breath stopped for a few seconds. 'He's downstairs? What does that mean? Does that mean he's here at my dormitory?'
"Don't you believe me? If you don't, come to your balcony and see for yourself," said Lucas, sounding somewhat amused.
Melody felt like this man must be insane. It was already past 2 a.m., and instead of going home to sleep, he drove to her dormitory building.
It was pure madness.
"You're crazy!"
Lucas chuckled at Melody's reaction. "Just come out and see for yourself whether I'm lying. Take your time, and don't rush. I'll be waiting downstairs for you."
He heard only silence from the other end of the phone, followed by faint rustling sounds, presumably Melody getting up.
The next moment, Melody appeared on the balcony. She was wearing a thin nightgown, holding her phone as she looked down below in confusion.
In an instant, her eyes met Lucas', who waited outside his car. Between heaven and earth, only the full moon witnessed this silent exchange.
With one person upstairs and the other downstairs, each holding their phone, they silently gazed at each other for a while.
Finally, Melody said, "You're really a lunatic."
Lucas chuckled softly, his smile seeming to be more abundant that night.
Melody felt her vision blur. She could not see clearly, yet she felt she could see the rare smile on Lucas' face. She could not help but smile herself.
"I didn't lie to you. I wanted to see you."
Both of them gazed at each other, one upstairs and one downstairs.
A faint blush crept onto Melody's face. Even in her thin nightgown, she did not feel the least bit cold. She even felt her blood boiling.
"When did you get here? How long have you been waiting there?"
"Not long," lied Lucas. He had been quietly waiting downstairs since he left Thalia's place. It had been over an hour by then.

"Would you let me in?" Lucas asked somewhat dazedly, unsure if Melody would want to see him, despite the pleasant conversation they were having.
"Do you want me to keep talking to you on the balcony? Hurry and come on up," Melody said with a gentle laugh.
The moment Melody nodded, Lucas stepped out of his car with long strides.
