As Melody spoke, she could not help but feel a surge of anger, feeling deeply unjust on Helen's behalf. She had hoped that after leaving, the Sanders would be able to live peacefully. However, things did not turn out as expected, and Helen was not living well either.
Feeling a bit panicked under Melody's interrogation, Wendy tightened her grip on her phone in her bag. This situation was far from what she had anticipated.
"W-Who said I haven't visited her? What do you know? I've been taking care of her all these days, you know? This is your first time here, so of course you wouldn't understand the intricacies. We consulted other doctors who said that stroke patients need rest, and here is the best place for that!" Wendy retorted defensively.
"Huh, if you're here every day taking care of her, then do you know where the caregivers are?" Melody asked casually, baiting Wendy.
"Where could they be? Of course, they're in her room with us. We even hired a caregiver who works all day specifically for her," replied Wendy, taking the bait. "Lies! There's clearly no one in her room," Lucas uttered coldly.
Wendy actually laughed in the face of how confident Lucas and Melody were. She crossed her arms and questioned them nonchalantly, "You should at least pretend to care about Mom even if you don't. Dad and I specifically hired a caregiver because we're afraid we won't be able to take care of her when we're busy. But now you're telling me there's no caregiver inside. So where did they go?"
Wendy secretly congratulated herself for decisively agreeing to hire a 24-hour caregiver when discussing it with Ethan. Otherwise, she would not have been able to justify the situation.
"Melody, I know you're usually very busy, but your filming has ended. Why haven't you come to see your mother even once? Is it because for all these years, you've been jealous and resentful that she favored me over you? She wouldn't have loved me more than you if you weren't such a bad daughter.
"To be honest, I feel sorry for your mother. She went through so much trouble to give birth to you, but you completely ignored her. She at least gave you life. Don't you have any gratitude toward her at all?" Despite having decided to let go of the past after seeing Helen, Melody found herself provoked by Wendy's audacity. While she could forget the past, it did not mean Wendy could repeatedly pick at old wounds Lucas noticed the anger building up in Melody, and he quickly grabbed her wrist, shaking his head slightly at her.
"It's not worth it," he whispered to her.
Melody looked at Lucas calmly for a moment before deeply exhaling.
'He's right. It's not worth it,' thought Melody. She had a bright future ahead of her, with more roles to play, meetings with fans, and so much more to do. All of that was far more important than Wendy. She was not worth her time and energy.
Melody decisively took hold of Lucas' wrist. "Let's go. I don't want to stay here any longer."
