After completing the rounds, Beatrice was feeling somewhat tired, so Melody accompanied her back to her room to rest. "Grandma, thank you for all you did for me, but there was really no need to introduce me tonight," said Melody.
Beatrice was showing slight signs of fatigue on her face. However, upon hearing Melody's words, she patted her hand gently.
"I know you're sensible and don't want my husband and me to worry too much, but there's something I must tell you. People in this circle are very realistic. Everyone comes for their own interests, and everyone leaves because of them. We must pave the way for you as much as possible while my husband and I still have some value to offer."
"Oh, Grandma..." Melody said simply in response to Beatrice's poignant words.
Beatrice had long learned the cold nature of human relationships and the harsh realities of the world in her years of being alive. These seemingly cruel facts were experiences she had lived through herself. She did not want her grandchildren to experience the same helplessness and heartache she experienced in her youth. This was why she did everything she could while she still had the time, energy, and
resources.
"You don't need to worry too much. Your grandfather and I will only do what we can handle. Besides, isn't it proof enough that I came up to rest when I'm feeling tired?"
Meanwhile, Lucas followed behind Cedric, greeting guests with an indescribable nobility. Though he did not speak much, just his presence alone was enough for the guests, and being able to clink glasses with Lucas made them feel honored.
Cedric looked at Lucas with immense pride. It seemed like just yesterday when this boy was only as big as a bean. He had grown so tall and broad-shouldered. As Lucas and Melody's life continued to improve Cedric and Beatrice could finally let go of their worries.
"Cedric, you're truly blessed to have such a successful grandson. It's a blessing that others can only envy."
Cedric felt even more delighted at the praise; he was all smiles. "Thanks for your kind words. We didn't really intervene much in his upbringing, and it's truly his own effort that has led him to become what he is today. Besides, isn't your kid the same? I heard he's doing quite well in their respective fields. You should be proud of them too!"
Cedric was speaking to a close friend who was also in business. However, the friend's son was reluctant to take over the family's business, which always troubled him. Then again, it was just as Cedric said- his son shone brightly in other fields, so why be so stubborn?
"Haha, I know I'm being stubborn. Perhaps you can teach me a thing or two on how to be open-minded like you," replied the friend.
Cedric patted his shoulder. "Sure, but not today. Let's make plans to go fishing together another day and have a good chat."
There was no telling when their last meeting would be since they were both getting on with age, and Cedric had lost many friends to old age over the years, so he did not really extend invitations like this anymore.

He always had a positive outlook, and he did not find the idea of his eventual demise to be particularly difficult to accept Especially since he and Beatrice had long agreed that if one of them were to pass away first, the other would follow after finishing all their affairs.
