"Chase, I called you several times. What's the matter with you?" asked the colleague.
Chase awkwardly scratched his head and flipped through the documents in his hand. "Huh? Did you just call me? Maybe I didn't get enough rest last night, so I sort of spaced out a little..." His attitude only made things more peculiar.
"Chase, I've finished editing the draft. Can you take a look?"
He nervously accepted the papers, still avoiding eye contact with Rita. "Um...yeah, sure. I'll take a look first, you can go back for now."
Under the watchful gaze of his colleagues, he slowly sat back at his desk. After a while, he tried to sneak a glance at Rita, only to find her staring at him with an amused smile playing on her lips. He immediately lowered his head.
"Hmm..." Rita chuckled and shook her head.
Chase's mental resilience was even worse than she had imagined. She had thought about playing a trick on him, but at this point, it seemed unnecessary. Still, was it worth her effort to deal with such a weak and spineless man?
Seeing Rita finally lower her head, Chase breathed a sigh of relief. After a while, he subconsciously straightened his shoulders.
'She probably has no idea who wrote that report!' thought Chase.
After all, he had submitted his work anonymously, and to a third-rate publication at that.
Logically speaking, nobody would suspect him, especially considering how many colleagues Rita had offended. Who could guarantee that it was not one of their doing?
With this thought, Chase felt emboldened again. It was all thanks to secretly following her that night that he managed to uncover such a big piece of news. It was already considered scandalous for their newspaper.
Chase felt a sense of triumph, eagerly anticipating Rita getting reprimanded by the higher-ups. Their company clearly valued employee conduct, not tolerate even the slightest dishonesty, let alone from someone like Rita.
However, Chase forgot one thing-Rita was a victim in this matter, and his sneaky actions of secretly taking photos of colleagues and manipulating them through editing were true examples of misconduct. Rita had not figured out how to deal with Chase yet. Honestly, dealing with him made her feel dirty.
Since joining the company, she had never met a colleague as troublesome as him. He not only took advantage of his background to swindle articles from other colleagues but also did not even
bother to cover basic news himself, relying on interns to gather material for him
to claim as his own. He was a senior with no shame. It was truly unfair for such a person to firmly hold onto his position.
Rita fell into contemplation.
"Everyone, pause your work for a moment. The boss said there will be a department meeting tomorrow at two o'clock in the afternoon."

Though she did not say it explicitly, her gaze pointedly shifted toward Chase's position. They had been m waiting for this guy to have a stroke of bad luck, and it seemed his turn had finally come. Rita did not quite agree. 'He had been abusing his power for a long time, so wouldn't the boss have dealt with him a long time ago if he could handle him?'
