'Is it really because the higher-ups couldn't stand Chase anymore and wanted to dismiss him?' Rita could not shake the feeling that there was someone else behind this.
"Hey, uh, Uncle, it's me, Chase!" Chase immediately put on a flattering smile as soon as the call connected, making everyone in the room cringe even more.
"I'm calling to ask about my job... Yeah, why am I suddenly being fired? Did something go wrong? Didn't you talk to them? What? Are you kidding me? Ah, I see..."
Chase's voice grew quieter. Everyone could guess from his dejected demeanor what his uncle was saying on the other end of the line.
Lenny was ecstatic. After being suppressed by Chase's uncle for so many years, unable to even dismiss such a useless employee from his department, he could finally let out his pent-up feelings.
"So? What did your uncle say? Did he tell you to quit New Capital Times
immediately? Let me tell you the truth: Even if a hundred of your uncles came, they wouldn't be able to save you. You're on your own from now on. But honestly, your writing style isn't suited for journalism. You'd be better off as a paparazzo."
"You jerk! You've let power get to your head," cursed Chase.
"So what if I've let power get to my head? It's still better than being a true scoundrel like you. Hurry up and leave this building. I find your presence here repulsive."
Chase clenched his fists, and his whole body trembled. He could not understand how things had suddenly turned out this way. Why would his usually reliable uncle insist on him leaving New Capital Times and advise him not to contact them for a while? Without his uncle's support, how would he find another job?
He glared fiercely at Rita, convinced that she was behind this, that she had written that article. She must have seduced some old man to frame him. Otherwise, how could he have lost his job? Though Chase did not dare lay a hand on Lenny, it was a different story for Rita, who was a woman. With no reservations, he charged straight at her.
Before he could grab her collar, Rita dodged out of his reach.
"What do you think you're doing, Chase?" Lenny slammed the table. "Quick! Stop him. Don't let him hurt Rita!"
The other male colleagues finally snapped out of it. Two of them each grab one of Chase's arms, rendering him immobile.
"Let me go! It's definitely this
