Christopher's wild and greedy ambitions were now glaringly obvious.
At this moment, Lance finally saw through this little bastard's true nature.
If he had not been deceived by Christopher's outstanding acting skills back then and trusted his eldest son more, supporting him to stay in the CEO's position instead of constantly suppressing him, perhaps things would not have turned out like this. He had given Christopher the chance to take advantage of them.
So what if Christopher could help him resolve the company's troubles?
Making a deal with this cunning and evil bastard, even if he was his own son, was no different than negotiating with the devil himself!
Therefore, Lance's intelligence kicked in. His tone eased after he calmed down. He could only take a step back. "Christopher, I can let your mother come back to live at the Iverson Manor, but the shares canno be transferred to you."
Christopher pushed his gold-rimmed glasses. "Didn't James do just that?"
"Your brother was charged with multiple sentences and might never leave prison in this lifetime. Coral has divorced him, and I am now the first in line to obtain his shares. They are rightfully mine."
Although Lance was seething inside, he could only play along, considering that Christopher was the only person he could rely on. "If the company shares had a major change, it would affect the power balance, and it would have to go through the board of directors.
"The shareholders are already a little dissatisfied that I disregarded the objecting voices to promote you. Now that so many issues have arisen, we'd better not shake things up further. If you do a good job, you will be the Iverson Group's only heir without the need to fight for it."
Christopher understood his words.
On one hand, Lance drew a picture for him, asking him to continue working for the Iverson Group. On the other hand, he was subtly reminding him that a CEO was merely a high-level employee.
As long as Lance still held majority shares and controlled the board, kicking Christopher out of the Iverson Group was only a matter of his words.
"Ha, I get it."
Christopher's expression was dark, as if hiding a brewing storm. In the end, he said nothing. He abruptly stood up and strode out of the room without so much as a word.
Lance was so enraged that his heart hurt, and he had to take a handful of pills to calm down.
Back in the car, Christopher's eyes bulged in anger, and he punched the car window fiercely with his fists.
"That old geezer doesn't want to give you James' shares?" Taylor gritted his teeth indignantly. "You're the only son he has left now. The Iverson Group will become yours sooner or later. Does he want to bring the shares into his coffin, holding on to them like that?!"
"That may be true, but I'm afraid the Boss could not wait anymore."
Christopher tugged on his tie frustratingly, still feeling suffocated in his chest, which would not ease. "I've basically declared war on Lance. We just haven't completely torn off the pretense."
"It's all that bastard's fault for influencing Ms. Bella to do this! They've completely disrupted your plans!" Taylor was enraged. "Mr. Christopher, we can't be playing into their hands. We must fight back!" Christopher's sinister gaze darkened as he pulled out his phone.
Just as he found Zoe's number, another call coincidentally came in.
Christopher's heart tightened, and he hesitated for a while before answering it respectfully and cautiously. "Sir."
"Have you gotten James' shares?"
Grant's clear voice rang out from the other end, carrying a hint of coldness that suppressed him.
"I'm sorry, sir."
Christopher straightened his back.
"Due to the change in situation, nes was brought away by the police at the dinner, causing the leverage I have..."
"To become useless." Grant's voice revealed no emotion.
"Sir, I'm really sorry. But please be assured, I will definitely think of something..."
"What solution could you possibly think of?" Grant's tone was laced with contempt. "If you have James shares, you'd have the power to stand against your father equally. But now, he still holds the Iverson Group's lifeline. In his eyes, you are merely a higher-level laborer."
Higher-level laborer.
These words were indeed a great humiliation to Christopher.
