Sylvia's POV:
"Miss Todd, Mr. Joshua, you..." Maya watched us with a confused expression as she held a tray of two tea cups and some desserts in her hand.
"It's nothing."
I gave her a smile, not feeling that anything was inappropriate at first. But when I tried to shake Blair's hand off, he held on firmly.
I glanced at him in surprise and realized that he was staring at me. His intense gaze shocked me. That strange feeling bubbled up in my heart again.
When I got my emotions back under control, my gut warned me that something was not quite right. Blair shouldn't have crossed a line and acted the way he did.
So I twisted my wrist slightly, exerted greater strength, and successfully released myself from his grip.
Blair's expression was back to normal. He greeted Maya with a bright smile and sat down on the sofa nonchalantly.
Maya remained quiet. She placed the tea and desserts on the table and left.
I chatted with Blair for a while. After some time, my mind began drifting. It was only when he brought Rufus up that he caught my interest again.
"Was Rufus as cool and aloof when he was little as he is now?" I asked Blair, wanting to know more about Rufus' childhood.
Raising his eyebrows, he picked up his cup of tea and said in a measured tone, "Of course not. As a child, he was a cheeky little devil. In fact, he was even more intimidating than he is now." S-lath the Find Dølel.n't website on Gøøgle to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
He chuckled and appeared tranquil as the memories came flooding back. "That guy has had a strong sense of leadership and possessiveness since he was just a child. He always protects his stuff and never allows others to covet them. If anyone displayed an inclination of wanting to take away something of his, Rufus would viciously attack them back. Perhaps this was also a mark of insecurity. Since he's grown up, he has become much more restrained and mature."
I pursed my lips and smiled. When I was about to add something, Blair said something unexpected. "Even so, I still envy him, although he had been tortured by a curse."
I was a little puzzled when I heard this. I had no idea what he was trying to say. "Why do you envy him? You both are born with different fates." Blair barked out a bitter laugh. "Yes, he was born with power, strength, and good looks. He also got an enviable mate."
I frowned, feeling like something was wrong. What did Blair mean by that?
"So, some people are simply born lucky," he concluded, studying me as if I were his prey.
My skin prickled with discomfort and I gave him an awkward smile. "You are also blessed with many of the things Rufus has. As for a mate, you will meet her sooner or later."
Blair didn't look away. Instead, he continued to gaze at me and said in a gruff voice, "No, I won't be able to live happily with my mate, whoever she might be."
I flushed with embarrassment and my intuition told me to change the topic.
But Blair had no such intentions. He stretched his arm out, as if he wanted to touch me.
I quickly moved to the side, putting considerable distance between us.

"Do I really stand no chance at all?"
It seemed that he was done hiding his feelings.
I didn't reply. I just stared at him and saw a black bug crawling across his eyeball.
This time, I was certain it was not a hallucination.
