For the sake of the baby growing within her belly, Ariana knew she needed to keep her temper in check and distance herself from the Likes of them as much as possible.
“I’ve finished my tasks, so I’ll be leaving first. Catch you later, Marge,” she informed her, hastily packing her belongings before bidding farewell and swiftly exiting the office.
As Ariana hurried toward the elevator, she unexpectedly ran into Brielle and Jasper at the entrance.
Casting a brief glance in their direction, she furrowed her brows slightly and attempted to navigate around them.
Previously, Brielle had never openly acknowledged their relationship within the company. Ariana had no desire to converse with this lovey-dovey couple now, so she feigned ignorance and planned to take the stairs, hoping to avoid any unnecessary interaction.
Unexpectedly, Brielle spotted her, wearing a self-satisfied smile, and called out in a loud voice, “Hey, where are you going so early, sister? Are you planning to skip work again?”
Ariana’s brow creased, as she stopped her steps without turning around.
She remembered the time when Brielle was six and returned to the Edwards family. Her initial behavior was one of caution and reserve.
With time and Spencer’s affection, Brielle grew bolder and brasher, forgetting her place as the illegitimate child and began to see herself as the sole Lady of the Edwards family. She made it a habit to belittle Ariana, be it openly or covertly, viewing her as an inconvenient obstacle.
She only made an effort to be amicable when Spencer was present; otherwise, the two were mostly in disagreement.
Pampered and well-dressed since childhood, Brielle was thought to be the only Edwards lady. She never publicly acknowledged her relationship with Ariana.
On this matter, Ariana surprisingly agreed with her.
Being an Edwards lady or being Brielle’s sister was of no concern to her.
Ariana was left wondering about Brielle’s intentions behind her conspicuous behavior today.
Most people were oblivious to their relationship, so Ariana thought of turning a blind eye and walking away. However, Brielle called out to her loudly, “Ariana, dear sister, why are you giving me the cold shoulder?”
Initially, Brielle and Jasper’s patrol together had drawn significant attention. Now with her loud call, an even Larger crowd assembled.
Ariana had no option but to turn around and reply.
“I have some office-related tasks to take care of outside.”
Having stated this in a disinterested tone, Ariana attempted to leave.
But Brielle, ignoring her words, cheerfully stepped forward and grabbed Ariana’s hand.
Ariana’s immediate reaction was to pull her hand back, but she stopped herself, apprehensive about the spectacle it would create.
“Sister, you have to attend my wedding. I’ve sent the details to your phone,” Brielle’s voice was noticeably affected.
As the crowd grew, whispers started to circulate.
“Could they really be siblings? It must be fake.”
“But they share the same surname, and Brielle appears quite fond of her. It doesn’t seem fake.”
