Chapter 136
She pressed her lips tight.
The place wasn’t empty. If someone heard them, or if Madelyn and Nate caught them in the act. it would be the very scene
Natalie dreaded.
She couldn’t help but close her eyes. After a few seconds, she whispered, “Can we take this to the bedroom?”
It seemed inescapable anyway.
“Open your eyes, look at me!” But the next second, his voice came at her, deep and commanding.
Natalie gasped for air, her gaze locking onto the figure before her.
His bro
heavy with the scent of whiskey, assaulted her senses.
His thumb pressed against her lower lip, his eyes bloodshot as he demanded, “Did they touch you here?”
“No...” Natalie managed to shake her head, feeling weak.
Brian leaned in and captured her lips in a fierce kiss. Only when he released his grip from her neck did she find the space to
breathe.
Her lips were sealed by his, and she felt close to suffocation.
Natalie drew in a sharp breath. Trapped by him, there was no escape.
“Speak!” Brian furrowed his brow tightly, his voice harsh.
Natalie could see the fury etched across his face, and her heart grew cold.
After a few seconds, she replied softly. “No.”
Brian must see her as nothing more than a woman of loose morals, otherwise why would he ask such a question?
“Natalie, don’t lie to me.” His gaze bore into hers, insistent and intense.
But Natalie couldn’t help a bitter laugh, “If you don’t trust me, why demand I look into your eyes to answer? What’s the point?”
His distrust was absolute. Even if she explained a thousand times, he wouldn’t hear a word.
She had said that she wasn’t after the James family fortune. He simply chose not to believe her.
Brian narrowed his brow slightly.
Sometimes his gut told him Natalie was hiding something from him and she was deceiving him. Yet she could maintain an
expression of innocence that was more convincing than that of a

child.
He could no longer tell which of her words were true and which were not.
God knew when he saw her on Michael’s arm, smiling sweetly, he wanted nothing more than to rip Michael’s arm off.
In his mind, she could be close to any other man, but not to him!
He took a deep breath, but the alcohol in his system only intensified, surging through him.
Natalie could feel the shift in Brian. Though she didn’t know what had set him off, she couldn’t control the slight curling of her
hands and feet, trembling involuntarily.
But she didn’t want to show weakness or beg for mercy. Besides, her pleas would be useless to him.
Brian saw the redness around her eyes, the clear fear, yet she stubbornly refused to let it show.
