Chapter 54
Brian stopped mid–sentence and rummaged through a bag nearby, pulling out a bottle of fever. reducer that Reid had brought,
the kind Nate always took. He poured a cap of the reducer and coaxed Nate to drink it down.
Nate clung to Brian’s neck, listless for a while, but regained some energy.
“Tonight, we’re having a steaming soup,” Brian said, turning to look at Natalie with a low voice.
Natalie helped set the table and took a seat opposite Brian and his son. She didn’t touch her utensils for a long while, her eyes
glued to her phone under the table.
Brian glanced at her twice and asked, “Why aren’t you eating?”
Natalie simply silenced her phone, flipped it over, and laid it on the table.
Nina had been bombarding her with video calls on King’s phone and even sent a photo of King lying in bed with bandages
covered in blood. King must have sustained severe injuries.
“I’m not very hungry.” Natalie managed a weak smile and responded to Brian.
If Brian ended up staying at her place, it would be a disaster. For starters, she had another job to finish in the next few days, and
she couldn’t make her moves under Brian’s watchful eye.
Moreover, she didn’t know why King was so badly hurt. He hadn’t told her and she was a bit worried, wanting to ask him what
exactly had happened.
King getting injured was nothing new. Even if he had just had a bullet removed, he could be back at the negotiation table the next
minute, all smiles and business as usual. He must be seriously hurt to be resting in bed. It looked like he was out cold.
Natalie was truly anxious..

“Eat up, I need to handle something.” Natalie said, unable to resist any longer. After a single bite, she set down her chopsticks
and grabbed her phone, hurrying out to the balcony.
Brian watched her rush out and close the balcony door behind her, darkening his face.
Nate gazed blankly in Natalie’s direction for a bit, then cleverly climbed onto Brian’s lap. “Daddy, feed me.”
Brian looked down at his son and curled the corner of his mouth, “Can’t you see that she doesn’t care about us? Why did you still
go out of your way to find her address to please her? Was it any use when she was in trouble? You were there with her. She’s
got someone else on her mind, no place for you.”

His words dripped with sarcasm.
“Huh?” Nate didn’t quite understand the meaning behind these words, puzzled.
Brian was silent for a few seconds, and then asked, “Has any man been here these past few days?”
Nate shook his head and pointed first to himself, then to Brian.
Brian gazed at him and then asked, “Do you like Natalie?”
“I do!” Nate exaggeratedly replied, “I miss her every day!”
Watching his over–the–top performance, Brian curled his lip again. After a while, he replied in at self–mocking tone, “Don’t we
all?”
Natalie pressed King’s butler for information. After repeated confirmations that King’s injury wasn’t serious and was just some
inflammation and fever from the wound, hence the constant sleep. Then, her worried heart finally eased a bit.
When she returned from the balcony, Brian and Nate were no longer at the table.
Brian’s plate was fairly clean. He seemed not to eat much either.
She glanced toward the bedroom, hearing the sound of running water. Brian was probably bathing Nate.
Her phone vibrated again. Natalie picked it up and saw a text notification for a deposit of fifty million into her new account back
home.
She stared at the digits for a long while, then took her laptop to the table, sat down alone, and began to eat the steaming soup
Brian had prepared for an hour.
