Chapter 173 Lapdog
Emelie could ask for anything if she went back to William?
"Like what?" she asked.
The black and white keys were pressed rhythmically, creating a melodious tane William spoke slowly, "The position of Chief Secretary is still yours."
Emelie asked again, "Is there more?"
"Salary increase, plus bonuses."
"Anything else?"
Willum glanced at her, his eyes narrowed slightly. The Emelie he remembered wasn't this greedy.
However, her willingness to negotiate indicated her willingness to return. He paused his plano playing and said, "Do you still not have a car? Inconvenient transportation."
Emelie chuckled softly. During their three years together, she didn't even have jewelry or handbags, let alone a house or a car. Now, he was offering them freely.
But she still asked, "Anything else?
"I'll take care of your mother's surgery to the end." William raised his chin slightly. "Shouldn't that be enough?"
Taking responsibility for the surgery was his trump card because he knew it was what she cared about the most. Of course, he knew. He knew better than anyone where to hurt her the most.
Emelie smirked. "You aren't drinking today, yet you're still as delusional as that night? After everything you've done to me, how could you still think I'd come back to you?
William's expression darkened in an instant..
He was probably about to argue that her mother's heart condition had nothing to do with him. But their issues ran tar deeper than that
"On the cruise ship, you were the one who traded me for that project, right? You were the one who kept blocking me from finding a new job, playing with me like it was a game, right?
"You've consistently, repeatedly suppressed me. Now you think I should just come running back because you say so? William, am I your lapdog?"
Emelle knew she should've stayed calm and unbothered
But whether it was the sight of Wesley in the garden or hearing William's absurd request, she couldn't contain her anger as she recounted the past two months of his manipulation.
William's lips pressed into a hard line.
Emelie sneered. "You sure did treat me like a dog, but I can be my own person. Why would I stick around to be your dog?"
The piano was black and white, just like William, with his black sweater and white trench coat. These two starkly contrasting colors made him stand out, crystal clear under the chandeller's glow.
As they locked eyes for a moment, a faint smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth. He resumed playing the piano, completing the ending of the music with a lazy, nonchalant style
"I was just making an offhand suggestion. If you don't want it, so be it. Why are you so worked up?"
Emelie felt she'd been punched in the gut. It was as if her anger hit a soft cushion instead of the intended target.
His response felt like he was toying with her again. Her voice tightened, she replied, "If you find it amusing to joke around, Mr. Middleton, I don't have time for it. Excuse me."
She turned to leave. William's voice followed her is he said, "Dusy spreading Daphne's photos, right? Of course, you don't have time."
Emelie paused briefly, then hurried into the elevator without a word.
