Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO by Ruby Fennimore

Chapter 271
“Mrs. Quillen!” Jessica greeted them, smiling ear to ear. “I never thought that
I’d see you here!”
“You are?”
Terence was not particularly pleased by her sudden appearance as he was
in a hurry to attend the Quillen family’s wedding banquet. As Felicity had held
them up, they were already running late, and he did not want to waste any
more of his time. However, upon seeing the uninvited guest’s wide smile, he
responded out of courtesy, all the while worried that he would be recognized
nearby the Lowe family’s house which would lead to Mackenzie losing the
ability to pretend to be poor when she was with Emmanuel.
“Old Mr. Quillen, I’m Jessica Oatley, the chief financial officer of Oatley
Corporation!” Jessica introduced herself along with her title, afraid that he
wouldn’t recognize her.
And yet, Terence still had no inkling of who she was and had even forgotten which company Oatley Corporation belonged to, so
he only replied, “Nice to
meet you, Miss Oatley. I’m busy, so let’s talk next time!”
Saying that, he turned around to leave.
On the other hand, Felicity remained expressionless, unsurprised by the sight
of small fry like Jessica trying to gain their favor, though she hadn’t expected

to encounter someone like this near the Lowe Residence.
“Old Mr. Quillen! Old Mr. Quillen!”
Jessica refused to give up, but she was immediately stopped by the Quillen
family’s bodyguards.
Alfred shot her a fierce glare and even warned her, “Miss, if you take another
step forward, we won’t hold back on you.”
“Uh...”
Jessica was thoroughly bewildered. It was embarrassing enough that she
failed to strike up a conversation with Terence, but the biggest problem was
that the Quillen family’s bodyguards were blocking the road that just so
happened to lead toward the Lowe Residence. If they refused to let her pass
through, she wouldn’t be able to return to pick up the bride!
As the sky grew darker, Roselynn finally left the house and got in the car. Not
knowing what had happened to Jessica, Jaxton assumed that she had left
without any intention of returning as she looked down on the Lowe family and
didn’t stick around to wait for her. Hence, she must have immediately
headed back home after picking up his bride.
Roselynn had just left when Terence and Felicity arrived at the Lowe
Residence. Although it was only a short walk, Felicity seemed to be in a bad
mood.

Fortunately, Terence made up for her low spirits with his friendliness as he
smiled brightly at Alessandra. “Haha. Mrs. Lowe, congratulations on your
daughter’s marriage!”
Then, he instructed Felicity to hand over their gift.
As Terence had a down–to–earth personality, he prepared two envelopes of
monetary gifts as a present. However, it was quite a large sum–each
envelope contained 10 thousand. Moreover, despite instructing his men to
prepare as much money as they could, this was the most he was able to
come up with.
“Oh, Old Mr. Quillen, you’re being too polite! It’s a pity Roselynn just left with
the groom, so we can’t bring her back to give you a toast!” Alessandra replied
politely. After all, two envelopes containing 10 thousand each were
considered a significant present in the Lowe family.
Claudette, who was just preparing to leave, finally got the gist of the situation
upon seeing the scene before her. It appeared that Terence was the one who
set up Mackenzie and Emmanuel’s marriage.
Looking at Felicity’s expression, it seemed that she was quite unhappy with
their marriage even if she didn’t say a word, and Claudette, wondered if she
still had a chance. As she watched Emmanuel giving Terence a warm
welcome, she let out a deep inhale before taking her leave.

Although both the Oatley and Lowe Residences were in Yeringham, the
journey was almost three hours long as Yeringham was a large city, and it
was already midnight by the time Roselynn arrived at the Oatley Residence.
Many of the members of the Oatley family expressed their displeasure
toward the situation.
Similarly, although Jaxton’s parents did not lose their temper at Roselynn,
they secretly chided him, “What exactly is going on? You went to pick up the
bride early in the morning, so why did you only come back at midnight?”
“That’s right. Did her relatives ask for a lot of money from you or they would
refuse to let her leave?”
The couple understood Yeringham’s customs when it came to wedding
banquets like the back of their hand. In the past, there were cases where the
bride’s family would ask for a large sum of money on the wedding day,
resulting in the groom immediately leaving without even taking the bride
with him in a fit of frustration.
