I had no idea whether Jasmine was heartbroken or couldn’t take his remarks. She started to cry with her head down.
Colin’s expression didn’t soften because of her words. He was silent for a while before saying firmly, “Loving the wrong person can cause irreparable damage. Please keep your love. I can’t afford it, let alone need it.”
He was conveying that he would never love her in this life and she should stop wasting her efforts.
Jasmine probably didn’t expect Colin to speak so firmly. She turned pale. Her eyes, which had never revealed sincerity, were filled with sadness and disappointment.
Tears streamed silently down her cheeks.
After Colin finished speaking, he turned around and wanted to sit down.
“Colin White, I saved your life. How are you going to repay me?”
Her sentence was like a hammer, striking my heart accurately and causing a fatal dull pain.
Colin abruptly stopped and stiffened while I covered my sore chest and said nothing.
Felix and Winston looked at me worriedly. They had clear sympathy and pity in their eyes.
I smiled at them to show calmness because I believed Colin wouldn’t let me down.
He turned around slowly. His movements were so sluggish that I thought every second he spent was a kind of torture for Jasmine.
Colin finally came face to face with Jasmine. He looked into her eyes and took a deep breath. Holding my hand, he said, “I’ll never forget your life-saving grace. Except for love, I can do anything that doesn’t violate the laws and my morals. I’ll repay the favor however you want.”
A long silence followed.
In Jasmine’s desperation, she had pushed the situation past the point of no return. She couldn’t regret it and change her mind as she couldn’t take back the words she had said.
Jasmine bit her lip tightly, tears glistening in her eyes. She tried hard to breathe to keep her tears from falling and maintain her dignity.
I believed her tears were genuine this time.
It took her five minutes to raise her head like a proud peacock. Her tears hadn’t dried when she smiled again. Her bright-colored lips appeared to be dazzling. “I want you to do something for me.”
“Okay, as long as it complies with what I said, I promise you.”
Colin was a gentleman. He wouldn’t break his promise.
After ensuring his promise, Jasmine turned around and left decisively.
Things seemed to be resolved, yet it was as if they had just begun.
