The incident back then was troublesome. Many people in their circle knew me, and countless of them despised me. Matthew’s mother, Brenda, and Helen’s mother, Georgina, were the worst. My argument with them in college made me famous.
In fact, I never wanted to fit into their world, let alone be mocked and despised. Their world didn’t appeal to me. I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself. I had pride in choosing my way of living.
Moreover, Georgina and Brenda were in cahoots with each other. If I showed up at the wedding, they would most likely misunderstand that I wanted to snatch the bride on the spot. I couldn’t afford such unfounded slander.
However, Matthew and Helen were both close friends of mine. I would give them my sincere blessings.
After I ended the chat with her, I noticed Matthew’s avatar on the main WhatsApp page flashing dazzlingly.
From the day I made things clear to him, I had blocked all his contact information and social accounts.
Later, because of Felix’s affairs, Matthew helped me a lot, so I had no choice but to add him back. After the college incident, I didn’t delete it but didn’t contact him either. His number was always at the bottom o my address book.
Looking at that prompt, I felt uneasy. I wondered why he had suddenly sent me a message. What did he want to say?
We had already bid each other farewell.
I clicked on the chat box and got a voice message inside that lasted 57 seconds.
When I clicked on it, I noticed the background was slightly noisy. Matthew appeared drunk and kept talking, his voice husky with tears.
“Lulu, I can’t love you anymore… Sorry, please forgive me. I can’t forget you… I miss you… I love you, Lulu. Forgive me…”
I was shocked. Had he not given up after so long? Did Helen realize he cried to me on the eve of their wedding?
Would knowing about that have an impact on her relationship with him? If Georgina knew about it, she’d accuse me of being a mistress.
I felt like a siren.
Before I listened to the voice
message, I had planned to send him my blessing. If this were the case, I wouldn’t need to send blessings. Instead, I should stay away from
him.
I suddenly felt that my decision to decline Helen’s request to be her bridesmaid was extremely wise.
The phone dinged again. Helen
posted a selfie of her and Matthew hugging each other. She also
captioned the photo with a romantic line, Dear Matt, I wish us happiness for the rest of my life.”
Matthew gave the post a like when I read it. Helen also instantly responded with a shy emoji.
Didn’t they recently tell others they were getting married? They were showing off their love! However, given how well they got along, what was the purpose of that voice message?
