Chapter 1068
Warren’s words left Amelia stunned. Her gaze was locked onto him as her face registered a profound puzzlement.
“I just want to know,” he implored. “Can you still find it in you to trust me? Would you believe every word I say?”
“Does it really make a difference whether I trust you or not?” Amelia’s response held an air of nonchalance.
“It matters,” he asserted.
Amelia said, “Alright then, I trust you. I trust that you’ll keep your promises, just as we’ve gone and tied the knot. You vowed to be
my partner in this, and we’ve obtained that marriage certificate. If, in the future, we decide to go our separate ways, you
promised that too. So, it should be no different.”
Warren’s heart that was once lifted transformed into a leaden weight of desolation.
He was once overjoyed when she said she trusted him a moment ago, but now, her words felt like an anchor dragging him down
into the depths of despair.
“So, do you believe that I love you?” Warren’s lips quivered slightly as he posed the question.
Amelia regarded him with surprise. Her confusion was evident as to why he had suddenly taken this turn.
At that very moment, a staff member dealing with the birth permit intervened and called out to Amelia to collect it.
Amelia hurried to her feet, retrieved the birth permit, and turned to Warren. “All right, let’s get going.”
However, as she took a couple of steps, he seized her arm, and his grip was firm. “You haven’t answered my earlier question.”
Amelia sighed deeply, turned to face him, and spoke with a heavy heart, “Warren, I trust that you believe you love me now, and I
believe that some of the things you say to me hold sincerity. However, think about it, do
you genuinely love me? Or is it merely a byproduct of guilt and regret? Your love for me may not run as deep as you think. When

crossed paths, wasn’t it all a facade? Back then, you were only pretending to love me, and it was quite believable. Perhaps,
people can deceive even themselves after they pretend for so long.”
Warren looked at Amelia in a daze and said in a hoarse voice, “So, are you implying that my love for you is nothing but self-
deception?”
“When we were together, you never truly loved me, did you? You were ready to believe Irene over me. So, after all these years,
do you genuinely love me, or is it merely driven by guilt and regret?” The way Amelia casually summarized their history carried a
hint of mockery.
After Amelia had spoken her piece, she yanked her arm back with a forceful tug and walked away.
Yet, Warren remained rooted to the spot. Her words were like a bitter lump lodged in his throat. Amelia had long lost faith in his
love.
Maybe it had vanished the day he testified against her in court.
However, he could not bring himself to acknowledge Amelia’s doubts about his love. The idea of their marriage devoid of
affection, inevitably culminating in divorce, was unbearable to him.
In quick strides, Warren caught up to Amelia and blocked her path. “Amelia, I understand that trusting me might be a challenge
after all the mistakes I’ve made, but I need to reiterate this. While my feelings for you were initially entwined with guilt and regret,
that’s not the reason I love you. I’ve loved you from the very beginning.”
Amelia merely regarded him in silence. His passionate declaration had fallen flat and failed to elicit even a flicker of emotion from
her.
Warren’s voice was tinged with bitterness as he finally confessed something he had never uttered before. “Did you know? It was
love at first sight.”
It was true that in those initial moments, it had felt like a rush of love as he saw her standing there with a subtle smile on her
face.
Even from the outset, he knew she was the daughter of his enemy, the target of his revenge. So, the more he loved her, the
more he buried his feelings.
“Whether it was love at first sight or not, it hardly matters now,” Amelia replied calmly.

“I want you to understand that I’ve been in love with you since the very start,” Warren continued.
“That might be all your love amounts to. It was nothing more.” Amelia delivered a curt response before she walked around
Warren and made her way toward the bus station.
In a sudden motion, Warren reached out to stop Amelia. “I’ll take you home.”
“No, I can...”
“Take the bus?” he interrupted. “The bus station is crowded with people. Are you not worried about feeling unwell, especially in
your condition? What if you get morning sickness? Now that we are legally married, isn’t it my responsibility to ensure your safe
journey home?”
“We only got married for the sake of our child. We’re not truly a married couple. Warren, you’re not planning to change your
mind, are you?” Amelia asked. Her voice was trembling with apprehension.
His eyes locked onto hers as he said, “Do you think I’m the kind of person who will go back on his word?”
Amelia froze at his words.
“To you, we got married because of the child. So, you might not think of me as your husband. But, Amelia, do you know that in
my eyes, you are my wife, my only wife,” Warren murmured. His voice was low and husky.
Amelia was taken aback. Her gaze was locked on the man before her.
Somehow, her heart stirred with a pang of pain when she heard Warren’s words.
“In the future, if you truly want a divorce, you could let me know, and I’ll make that happen. So, you don’t have to be too worried
about being trapped in this marriage for the rest of your life.”
Deep within, Warren harbored the opposite desire. He yearned for their marriage to become an unbreakable bond, for her to
remain by his side forever.
As Amelia drifted in her thoughts, Warren had already guided her to the car and settled her in the passenger seat. He leaned
down and carefully secured the seatbelt around her.

“Ah!” She jolted back to her senses when she found his face looming large before her. “You...” Taken aback, her cheeks flushed
involuntarily.
He watched the rosy hue spread across her cheeks and was lost in a moment of nostalgia as he glimpsed the girl from years
past.
In those days, the intimacy of his affectionate gestures would spark a shy yet joyful blush on her cheeks. He would even
purposely act in a way that made her blush and revel in the sight of her rosy radiance.
“Amelia, someday, I’ll earn your trust once more,” Warren declared as he straightened in his seat and returned to the driver’s
position.
He could not afford to rush. It was he who had shattered her trust with his actions, and now, he would piece it back together,
even if it would painstakingly take a lifetime.
Amelia was lost in contemplation and questioned if she could truly trust him again. On what grounds could she place her faith in
him? That he genuinely loved her?
However, the notion of believing in him again felt impossibly distant to her.
She had once placed unwavering faith in him, only to find herself incarcerated in the end.
The memory of losing all faith and hope was a torment she wished never to relive.
