Chapter 603
“I’ll go instead. If you are not present when the doctor arrives later, you will have to look for the doctor again, which is
inconvenient.” After all, doctors were not always present in their offices. They had rounds and outpatient visits, so it was not
always easy to find them.
That made sense to Amelia, so she said to Lucas, “Thank you.”
“No problem. I came here today to help with errands anyway.” Lucas smiled and walked out of the ward.
Amelia watched Lucas’ departing figure and couldn’t help but sigh. “He really is a good person.”
“You’re right. He’s a very good person,” Rosalie agreed.
“However, in this world, good people frequently do not receive what they deserve. I hope he’ll lead a good life in the future,”
Amelia murmured. When she was young, she had not paid much attention to people like Lucas, who was a little shy and honest.
Instead, she used to admire men like Warren.
Nonetheless, she realized after many experiences that loving an honest person was what led her to happiness.
She didn’t have to worry about betrayal, deception, or even revenge.
Even if they did not make much money, her heart would be at ease living a peaceful life.
The group stayed in the ward until the doctor arrived and provided Amelia with Aiden’s discharge summary report. After some
instructions, the doctor left, and Lucas had yet to return.
For some reason, he was taking quite a while.
Rosalie could not help but feel uneasy, but she quickly told herself that she was overthinking. Perhaps Lucas was simply
unfamiliar with the hospital.
In the end, she decided to call Lucas, but there was no answer on the other end of the phone.
Rosalie furrowed her brow. “What’s wrong? Did Lucas not pick up the phone?” asked Amelia.
“Maybe he didn’t hear it. I’ll try again in a while,” Rosalie said. Just as she was about to make the call, a nurse rushed into the
ward and said to Rosalie, “The man who came with you today, is he your friend? The police are taking him to the police station
for questioning. If things go badly, he might be detained. Can you try to mediate the situation?”
Rosalie was shocked, and she and Amelia exchanged surprised glances. “Detained? What’s going on?”
The nurse glanced at the child in the pediatric ward and hesitated to speak. Rosalie recognized her intent, and the two of them
exited the ward.
“It is a case of sexual harassment and attempted sexual assault, and there are witnesses on the scene. That is why the police-
have taken him to the police station,” the nurse explained.
Rosalie couldn’t believe what she had just heard. “Attempted sexual assault? It made no sense for Lucas to be involved in
something like this. Could someone like him really commit such a crime, especially when assisting Amelia with document
photocopying in a hospital? It’s completely illogical!” she mused.
Hence, Rosalie asked around and found out which police station it was before returning to the ward. “Amelia, I am really sorry. I
originally wanted to help Aiden with his discharge, but now I have to go to the police station to find out what is going on with
Lucas,” she said in a low voice as she informed Amelia of the circumstances.
“Don’t worry about it. I can handle the discharge here with my mother,” Amelia said, equally perplexed that Lucas would be
involved in such a thing.
Aiden had no idea what was going on and kept asking what the term “detention” meant. Left with no choice, Amelia could only
make up stuff to fool him.
When Rosalie arrived at the police station, Lucas was still being interrogated. According to the police, there was a surveillance
camera as well as eyewitnesses at the scene. If the surveillance footage, once retrieved, indeed corroborated the accounts of
the victim and witnesses, then Lucas would be charged with attempted sexual assault.
“I want to speak with Lucas,” Rosalie said. Regardless of the situation, she needed to hear from Lucas himself to understand
what had happened.
“He’s still in the middle of an interrogation. Once there’s enough evidence, the police will detain him according to current laws
and regulations. In that case, visitation is not allowed unless it’s necessary,” the officer replied.
Rosalie bit her lip and declared solemnly, “I am Lucas’ representative lawyer, and I have the right to see him.” With that, she
handed over her identification to the officer.
“All right, you can speak with him after the interrogation is finished, but you will only have half an hour,” the officer said after
verifying her credentials.
“Understood,” Rosalie agreed, then waited outside anxiously.
Every minute felt like an eternity for her.
Just then, the door to an interview room opened, and a figure emerged. The person appeared to be in tears, wiping their face
with tissues all the time.
“Ms. Haberly, you can go back for now. We’ll contact you later, and if you remember any additional details, you can reach out to
us at any time,” the officer said.
“Okay...” Fiona agreed. When she turned around and saw Rosalie, she immediately said, “Rosalie, you’re not trying to plead for
that man, are you? I will never forgive him for what he did to me. Fortunately, someone happened to be passing by at the time. If
no one had been there, I would have...
Fiona choked up as she spoke.
Rosalie felt a growing sense of unease. “So, Lucas was detained by the police because of you?” she asked.
“He’s clearly a sexual offender! I can’t believe you have such a former colleague. You and him...” Fiona continued, deliberately
raising her voice when she saw a figure walking into the police station through the corner of her eye. “Could it be that you were
the one who instigated him, causing him to do such a terrible thing to me? Rosalie, we’re cousins. How could you do this to me?”
In an instant, Rosalie’s expression darkened. Her intuition told her there was definitely something fishy going on now that Fiona
was accusing her. “We still do not know what Lucas did. I am afraid you are being paranoid, thinking I am trying to hurt you.”
“I understand that you’re uncomfortable with the fact that I was Calvin’s savior when he was young. He treats me well, but it is
you that he loves. I will never be able to take your place. You did not have to make Lucas do something like this.” Fiona sobbed.
“I never asked Lucas to do anything,” Rosalie said coldly.
“Rosalie, it doesn’t matter whether you admit it or not. I will never forgive Lucas, no matter what,” Fiona concluded on her
Own.
