Chapter 149
Nate was gently roused from his sleep by the sound of hushed conversation. Blinking his eyes open, he called out softly,
“Daddy...”
Brian’s stern face softened, and he bent down, caressing Nate’s cheek, “I’m here, buddy.”
“Where’s Natalie?” Nate looked around, not finding Natalie, and asked with a puzzled
expression.
“She’s on set, filming.” Brian darkened his eyes again at the mention of Natalie.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Nate. When Natalie was here, Daddy was gone. Now that Daddy was back, she was out.
The trip to the amusement park seemed to be off the table.
“Feeling okay? Tell Dad if you’re not,” Brian gently took Nate’s small hand in his own, asking
with concern.
“I’m fine.” Nate replied. Then he buried his face a few times in the spot where Natalie had slept the night before. It smelled good.
Natalie always had this faint, pleasant scent that was just irresistible.
“Natalie slept with me last night,” Nate boasted proudly, “She even scratched my back. It was so nice!”
Benjamin, who had keen eyes, noticed a faint red mark on the back of Nate’s neck.
He stepped forward, lifting Nate’s shirt to inspect his back. There were purplish spots along Nate’s spine. It looked like Natalie
had been doing some therapy on him.
Considering Nate had a bit of a fever, he should have been feeling unwell all over, but since he claimed to feel fine, it was
probably thanks to the cupping.
“Did you get all fired up this early in the morning because Natalie wasn’t here?” Benjamin eyed Brian’s complex expression,
probing him.
“That’s where you’re wrong. Nate was running a fever, and she stayed with him, trying hard to make him comfortable. Just
because her work took her away, you got angry. Isn’t that a bit unreasonable?”
Even though Brian had always been somewhat unreasonable.
“Think about it, I told her to keep giving the kid his medicine without fail. I reckon she barely slept last night. She...”
Before Benjamin could finish, Brian cut him off with a frown, “Why do you talk so much?”
“Fine, I have a big mouth,” Benjamin retorted, a little defeated.
Benjamin had seen enough to know Brian was just a heartless jerk!
As a family physician, a part–time psychologist, and confidante to Brian, not to mention al

doting uncle to Nate, Benjamin did a thankless job and wasn’t even paid extra for it. He might as well consider working for
Remington.
Though it might be risky, the pay was good, and nobody there dared to give him any lip.
Natalie had just wrapped up two long scenes and looked a bit pale while resting on the side.
Rosle came over with a bottle of water, peering at her, “You feeling okay?”
Natalie shook her head. “No, I think It’s just because I didn’t sleep well last night.”
“What kept you up?”
Natalie had never mentioned anything about the Howard family to Rosie, nor had she brought up Nate. When she had borrowed
Rosle’s car before, she simply said it was to pick up a relative’s kid from school.
“I was just memorizing my lines last night, got a bit wired, and then couldn’t sleep,” Natalie replied with a smile.
“I’ll go grab you a cup of coffee,” Rosie said, getting up. Before Natalie could decline, Rosie was already out the door.
Natalie wasn’t sure if Nate’s cold had been contagious or if it was something else, but ever since she arrived that morning, she’d
been feeling dizzy and nauseous. Yet, she didn’t have a fever or a stuffy nose.
It might just be the lack of sleep.
After forcing down a few sips of the coffee Rosie brought her, she felt a tad better. However, during the next scene, the wave of
nausea hit her hard.
Suspended mid–air in a harness, she turned to the director and gestured for a timeout.
