Chapter 422
“It’s great,” Rosalie replied.
“That’s great.
If there’s anything else you need, please don’t hesitate to let me know. You shouldn’t feel guilty about it. And if you do, you can
always pay me back once you receive your salary,” Lillian said reassuringly.
“Okay,” Rosalie replied with a smile. However, after a moment, she wore a hesitant expression as if she wanted to say
something but held back.
“What’s the matter? What are you feeling like you’re missing?”
“No. It’s just that..” Rosalie hesitated for a moment before asking, “Yesterday, when you came to pick me up, what was I doing?”
She had spent an entire day racking her brain, yet she couldn’t recall what she had done after leaving Night Sky drunk. All she
had was a faint recollection of possibly seeing Jonathan.
“You... Well, you were in Jonathan’s arms, quite drunk,” Lillian replied.
Rosalie immediately froze upon hearing that. “Is there anything else?” she asked nervously.
“Nothing else.” Lillian then added, “When I arrived, Callum and I assisted you in getting into the car. But... I impulsively slapped
him before returning to my seat because I was furious that he broke up with you. I thought I was in trouble, but he left without
uttering a word. I assumed it was for your sake.”
Rosalie was left dumbfounded. She hadn’t expected such an incident to occur after she had gotten drunk.
After all, in Strico, very few people dared to confront Jonathan like that. Moreover, she found it difficult to believe that Jonathan
had let Lillian off the hook after being slapped.
“Rosalie, did Jonathan genuinely break up with you because he saw the relationship as a game?” After what had transpired the
previous night, Lillian found such a reason somewhat implausible.
Furthermore, if it were indeed a game for him, why would Jonathan have brushed off the slap so easily, especially considering
the words Rosalie had uttered when she was drunk?
“I suppose so. He felt tired and didn’t want to be in the relationship anymore, so he ended it,” Rosalie replied. “If his behavior
wasn’t rooted in viewing our relationship as a game, then what else could it be?”
After hearing that, Lillian had no words left, only hoping that her friend could extricate herself from the failed relationship
sooner.
After ending the video call with Lillian, Rosalie went to lie down in bed.
The light was still on.
When she was with him, she could simply turn off the lights and go to bed. However, after the breakup, she found herself
needing to turn on the lights again before she could fall asleep.
In early August, even at night, the air remained sultry.
“If it took less than a year for me to fall in love with him, how long will it take to forget him? But one day, I will be able to move
on,” Rosalie said to herself silently before slowly closing her eyes.
Her new job kept her incredibly busy and hectic.
Despite the fact that her colleagues in the office were secretly gossiping about her these days, at least no one had approached
her to inquire about her relationship status with Jonathan.
Even Elodia didn’t bother her during that time, providing Rosalie with a welcomed sense of peace.
When it was time to leave work, Lawrence handed her a document that required the client’s signature. However, since the client
preferred not to visit the firm, they needed to send the copy to the client, have it signed, and then proceed with the usual
procedure.
Being his assistant, Rosalie was naturally responsible for tasks like those.
“Okay. I’ll attend to this,” Rosalie answered.
“It needs to be submitted tomorrow, so please ensure that the client signs it today,” Lawrence informed Rosalie, providing her
with the contact information for the client.
When Rosalie called the client, the person’s secretary answered and informed her that the client would be attending an event at
The Vault Nightclub that night. Rosalie was instructed to go to the nightclub and search for the client to get the document signed.
The secretary even provided Rosalie with the number of the banquet hall.
The Vault Nightclub was a renowned establishment in Strico.
When Rosalie arrived, she noticed a large gathering of men and women in the banquet hall, clearly in the midst of a lively
party. Initially, she couldn’t identify her client amidst the crowd.
She decided to call the secretary once more, and with their guidance, she eventually spotted the client near the pool table.
The client was a wealthy scion with a notorious reputation. He was currently facing a lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, who was
seeking compensation due to his history of violence during their relationship.
Lawrence had taken on the task of defending the heir in the case.
Rosalie had familiarized herself with the case details, and it was apparent that the man had indeed been violent toward the
woman. She felt a deep sense of disgust for such a person, but she also recognized that it was her job to handle the situation
unless she decided to quit then and there.
“Mr. Yaeger, could you please sign this document? We’ll need to submit it officially tomorrow,” Rosalie said to Kayden Yaeger,
who was engrossed in a game of pool with a pretty woman in his arms.
However, Kayden merely gave her a lazy glance and said, “Can’t you see I’m busy? Wait for a moment. I’ll sign it after I’m done
playing pool with Joanna.”
Upon hearing Kayden’s words, Joanna, who was in his arms, giggled, and their bodies pressed even closer together.
Rosalie simply pursed her lips, choosing to remain silent.
In that world, it was common to face mistreatment while working, and Rosalie lacked the power to reject such treatment. She
acknowledged that, at least, waiting on the sidelines was far better than her experience in prison.
Rosalie stood quietly on the side while Kayden and the woman remained fully engrossed in their match. They started another
game immediately after finishing one.
Despite Rosalie’s attempts to remind him that she needed merely his signature, Kayden continued to ignore her.
Rosalie lost track of time while standing there. It felt like it had been an hour. The prolonged standing, coupled with the chill from
the hall’s air conditioner, caused her knees to start aching faintly.
Ever since her time in jail, Rosalie had developed rheumatism. The joints in her fingers and knees were particularly prone to
pain.
While she lived in the Youngblood residence, the condition improved as she took prescribed medication for a period of time.
However, after her breakup with Jonathan, she naturally stopped going to the hospital or taking the medication to manage
After all, she couldn’t afford such medication.
“Hold on! It will be over soon,” Rosalie silently reassured herself.
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the entrance of the banquet hall. Kayden, who had been playing pool with the beautiful
woman, stopped and pulled Joanna along, saying, “Come. I’ll introduce you to the scion of the entertainment industry”
Joanna was excited upon hearing that
After hearing that, Rosalie was left in astonishment. She thought, “There’s only one person who can be known as the scion of
the entertainment industry in Strico-Calvin!”
